So I just got a slightly used but good condition Ruger LCP, after having done a pretty fair amount research on them. However, I've still got some questions.

Firstly, what do you think of the LCP's accuracy? When I fired mine today, I was able to put most of my shots in an area about the size of a grown man's chest from five or six yards. The ammo I used was CCI Blazer 95 gr. TMJ. I'm not a terrible shot with a pistol, and I'm no expert either, but I wonder if this seemingly poor accuracy is due to the fact that I need more practice and still need to get used to the trigger, or if it's because of the LCP's light weight, short sight radius, and long, heavy trigger pull. Maybe it's a little of both? If it makes any difference, I've noticed that the barrel wobbles around a lot when the slide is locked back and the bore appears to be somewhat roughly machined.

Also, what would be some good pocket holster options? Does anyone have experience with the Blackhawk holsters? Are they good, bad, so-so? And lastly, I'd like to hear your thoughts on some good carry ammo. I know a lot of people speak highly of the Buffalo Bore +P loads, but I'm reluctant to shoot +P in this gun, mainly because the recoil is already stout enough with standard pressure ammo and I'd like to be able to get off relatively quick follow up shots if I ever needed to. I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys have to say.

Love mine. A little practice and you can shoot it amazingly well-for a very small DA gun.

Holsters: Desants Nemesis works great for not a lot of $. Mika makes a wonderful pocket holster-not too much $ but wait time is sometimes long.

The LCP is a fine little up close and personal SD weapon. It is normal for the barrel to wobble when the slide is locked back. You'll undoubtedly see why when you field strip it for cleaning. I suspect what you may be looking at that gives you the appearance of a rough bore is the rifling? That short barrel does make it difficult to become a sharpshooter with but the gun will serve its function as a deterrent from victimization. Shoot it a lot to get used to it and take care of it. Congratulations.

It just takes practice.
Also you have to get use to that long trigger.
Mine finally breaks almost at the very end of the trigger pull.
But once you get that part down you will find they are amazingly accurate.

No, it's not the rifling, lol. There just appears to be a lot of tiny but visible machine marks in the bore. Maybe I could call Ruger and find out. The lands and grooves of the rifling, however, appear to be pretty sharp. It's a fairly new gun; made last year.

I find it to be a good, reliable gun, mine will shoot anything and everything I put through it. I have not shot +P through it, nor do I care to. I currently have some old W-W Silvertip Hollow Points in it which are fairly decent as for point-of-impact at 21' with my Crimson Trace Laser I installed a year after buying the gun.

I would say, at 21', I am shooting about a 4" group from what I remember when I shot it six months ago.

practice if you want to be a sharpshooter with that mousegun. I love mine, first carry weapon I don't mind toten' everyday. With a belly-band holster I can wear swim shorts and t shirt without the gun noticeable.
almost jumped into the saltwater with it.
Put a stronger spring in it, Ruger wants girls to pull the slide back while gun shopping, the stronger spring keeps the slide from hammering the cr** out of the frame, and feels better when shooting

Good suggestion!
I think I will check out Wolff Springs and see what I can do to make the spring stiffer! I know they have a good selection of quality springs there!

For its size the LCP is very accurate if one takes their time and carefully aims. I wouldn't recommend a quick firing shootout (point shooting) at any distance over 10-15ft. For its intended purpose, up close and personal / last resort, it should suffice.

I also really like the DeSantis Nemesis holster!.....Works great in either front or back pockets.

I know what you mean about the bore being rough.

Mine fouls like nothing i've ever seen, especially with lead. but it is accurate enough, and I don't shoot it all that much, so I don't worry about it.

Incredibly accurate at 7 yards, fist sized groups. Reliablility has been 100% but I have only put about 300-350 rounds though it. I really don't like Ruger autos but this one is pretty good.

Love my LCP, it sits in my front pocket everyday, and has for the last two and a half years in a Desantis super fly with out the added flap on it. I carry gold dot +p in it and an extra mag in my other pocket. Mine has shot everything that i have ever fed it including lead reloads, gold dot +pis my carry ammo in all my guns.

Love my LCP, too.

It's a great little carry gun.
I have a CT laser on mine and it can place rounds out to 20 yards.... Easy!

Lateck,

I like my LCP. It works well for social distances. I think my accuracy is somewhere around all rounds on a pie plate out to ~10 yards. I rarely shoot it past 5 yards. The trigger does take some getting used to. I use Hornady Critical Defense in mine. It has been 100% reliable with everything, WWB, Remington Golden Sabre, "USA Ammo" brand, and a few others.

I usually carry an LCP. I don't really shoot "groups" with it, but I can keep my shots on a silhouette target at 15 yards, so I consider that "accurate enough" for its purpose.

Realistically, the gun has a long heavy trigger pull, a short grip, sights that are barely there, fairly excessive recoil, and a very short sight radius. Most people aren't going to shoot it as well as a full-sized single-action 9mm.

I actually shoot my LCP better than my LCR. Between the higher capacity, the slimness, and the accuracy, my LCR for intents and purposes has been basically retired:what: I carry it with a some snake shot down at the lake in the spring time just in case.

I have started to make peace with the fact that it's OK if I don't pack 13 rounds of 230gr .45acp with me daily. I'll probably be OK day to day with 7+1 and a reload of .380.

It took a little practice, but I'm shooting fist-sized groupings at 7 yards. I don't practice too much beyond that because .380 is expensive to buy, and out past 7 yards I don't trust my shots. I keep mine in a rough-side out leather pocket holster I made for it. It just slips into my back pocket no problem. If i'm carrying it while wearing an over-shirt I just use a cheap nylon pancake holster. As a matter of fact, I open carried the LCP while in Virginia (my CCW isn't recognized there). Cheap black nylon holster next to my black otter-box carrying my phone with a camcorder over my shoulder hanging next to my all my stuff...no one even saw the grip of the lil LCP just hanging out.

I can't say enough nice things about it, and I'm going to look into getting a stouter spring. Good suggestion:)

I like my LCP because it fits in my pocket and is very light. I dislike the sights, the long trigger pull and the caliber. I have to concentrate a lot more to shoot it accurately than I do with other guns, even some of similar size. But I have confidence that it will go bang when I need it to, and I love carrying a gun made in the USA.

Those groups you describe will get much better with lots of practice and dry firing. The small size and long trigger pull combined with the short sight radius make accurate shooting somewhat hard but the trade off is being able to drop it in your pocket and go.

I just bought one a couple of weeks ago. So far I love it. It is a very difficult trigger for me to master and I must say it's going to take a lot of practice for me to shoot it well quickly. When I really focus on accuracy it will generally put all of it's shots in one of those 2" stick on orange target dots at 7 yds. So far I've shot PMC, Monarch, and Speer 88gr JHP and Sierra 90gr JHP handloads through it. No hiccups yet.

There are a couple of LCPs in my family. I carry it when I can't carry something bigger. They've been reliable and surprisingly accurate. It's amazing how inaccurate an inexperienced shooter can be--due to jerking the trigger or flinching. Begin with a small caliber (.22), start close and work your way back, and practice. DeSantis Nemesis holster for me, too.

Wife bought me a second LCP for my birthday and shot it weekend before last. I couldn't believe it. The first round was dead center at 7 yards. I put 5 rounds in a 3 to 4 inch circle. Shot a total of 25 rounds through it and had one miss feed with the case stuck in the action on top of the round trying to load. Other than a terrible trigger it is a lot better gun than I expected. My first LCP is a Coyote Special that is going to stay unfired until Rick Perry is elected president and the price is going to skyrocket.
