Ruger Mark III Clicking Trigger

Hi y'all. I have a trigger question about my new Ruger Mark III. At the very beginning of the trigger pull, before any slack it taken up, there is a definite and audible "click" when the trigger is pressed. After this click the remainder of the trigger pull is normal. Also, I can continue to replicate this condition by withdrawing the slide 1/4" inch or so and slightly pressing the trigger again.

This hasn't caused any functional problems at the range but an extra click in the trigger pull can be disconcerting and I want it gone. I have purchased a Volquartsen target sear but have not yet installed it, and really, I don't want to start replacing parts based on quesswork. I have fieldstripped the gun but have not been able to determine the source of the problem, probably just because I'm ignorant. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
 
I have two Mark IIIs and the other one doesn't do it either. I just don't know enough about the inner workings to know what could be causing it on the new one.

Mine is new also and the click is there, also have a Mark II, no click.

Don't know enough about the guns to make an assessment.

I don't think it is a problem, just the nature of the gun, I have over 1,000 rounds thru my new Mark III Hunter and it shoots great. I think it's just the trigger reset.
Just saying.

It probably isn't a treal problem but it is annoying, two clicks per trigger pull.

No, it's well forward of the trigger reset, right at the beginning of the pull (I had checked to make sure).
 
The trigger reset spring begins to compress right at the beginning of the trigger pull. If the plunger on the trigger reset spring is catching on its hole as it is depressed it may give you a click right at the beginning of your trigger pull. I would also check to see if the disconnector assembly is catching on anything at the back, near the sear.

Try this, pull the trigger just far enough to hear the click, not far enough to release the hammer. Let the trigger reset and try the same thing again. Does it click now, or do you have to pull the slide back every time before you can replicate the click?

ETA: One more thing, is it only an audible click or can you feel any resistance during the click?
 
Thanks lions. No, I have to pull the slide back just a little to get it to do it again. And if I hold the trigger slightly back when I pull the slide, then it clicks when the trigger goes forward.
 
Interesting, I have a MK II and a MK III and neither of them have ever clicked. I'm going to see if I can replicate this and I'll get back to you.
 
My MKIII does this randomly depending on how I reassemble it. I've had it striped-stripped a number of times 'cause I'm a glutton for punishment, and about 50% of the time it'll do the click you're talking about.

From what I've seen, I'm pretty sure it's how the disconnector is interacting with the frame pin it's using as a guide. If that pin gets put in backwards (the short end off the shoulder should be towards the safety) then the gun will function, but the disconnector sits weird and can bind just a bit as you pull the trigger. You hear the "click" when the bind frees.

It sounds like you haven't striped yours down far enough to have caused this, so it may just be "wrong" fromt he factory. Popping the barrel off should let you see what's happening.
 
I took it apart again and it's not the trigger spring, still not sure about the disconnector assembly. After reassembly I did discover that the bolt has to be all the way forward for this to occur. I had found that I could replicate a similar click with the bolt removed by pressing down on the disconnector assembly and pressing the trigger, but with the gun reassembled the bolt had to be all the way forward for it to happen. Honestly, since it doesn't seem to affect functioning, I've about decided to just live with it. I do appreciate all the replies.
 
I haven't been able to make either of my guns click. Wish I could be more help. I would check out midiwall's suggestion or just live with it. Good luck.
 
I have an update for all of you that responded as well as anyone else who might be interested. The clicking was definitely determined to be coming from the disconnector assembly. When the assembly is pressed down it catches on something (can't tell on what without further disassambly) and is released when the trigger is pressed slightly. I may eventually do something about it but right now I can live with it. Thanks.

If you do decide to take it apart, figure on it _NOT_ going back together the way you pulled it apart since I think it's wrong now as it is.
