I bought my Mark ll in the early 80's but never shot it that much. Retired and shooting more now and that mag button gets hard on my wimpy thumb. I have Uplula's for my 1911's but have not clue on where to start to find a good mag loader for the Mark ll.

FYI some ammo works better in it than others. Round nose works best. And a spray of rem oil in a batch of a couple hundred rounds in the hopper and shaken around makes them slip right down the chute. You can go through a brick very quick.

After watching the videos I can't believe I waited 40 years to ask. I did order some Rem Oil. Still on the fence about the Ruger Mark ll mags. I would like Ruger OEM but they are pricey. Like $40.00 each. May order Mec-Gar. I have some Mec-Gar mags for my CZ's.

I would find OEM or try used OEM on eBay or gunbroker. Mec gar makes good stuff generally but IME their mags for the Rugers are a bit iffy. Maybe get one or two to try before you buy a bunch. However as noted, with the clip loader you really only need a few mags. With two or three mags you can fill them up faster than you can empty them.

Also FWIW you can use MKIII/MKIV magazines in the MKII. They are only about $19 each https://gregcotellc.com/cart/ruger-...ack-10-rd-factory-magazines-90645-p-2222.html

The mag catch protrusion sometimes catches on its way out of the bottom of the grip but you just move the mag a little and it comes right out. And if that bothers you, you can grind off the tab (though that mag won’t stay in MKIII/MKIV pistols anymore obviously).

Here’s one of my MKIIs with some mags I use: MKII mag on the left, stock MKIII mag center, and MKIII with the tab ground off on the right. All feed and function equally well.

I have been using a set of the MecGar MKII mags for a little while now. No issue with them so far.

YMMV

Those magazines have a button that sticks out the side. I use the back edge of a a blade on my pocket knife to hold that down.

i like this from amazon. fairly cheap.i got a fancier magazine loader from speed beez that is similar to the McFadden one when it was on sale. i wasn't happy with the fancier one especially when using aguila 40 cpsp which is shorter than other rounds and tenda to tilt in the magazine.

I have a McFadden and it works well (after fiddling with the adjustment screw) for my MkII mags and a little better for my Buckmark mags.

FWIW, an old lightswitch plate (after a couple swipes with a file) fits over a Ruger magazine and allows you to hold down the button for easy loading.
