After reading a number of complaints about the Mini-14's accuracy, or lack thereof, especially when the barrels get hot, I was wondering what the best remedy might be? I'm looking at the Henrich Smallbore Vibration Controller, but is there anything better? And how good does this vibration controller work?

Also, what do you call the part that the sling goes through? I need to order a couple for my Butler Creek stock and don't know what they're called.

Thanks!

My best remedy was to trade one of mine last week. I still have a stainless/laminate that I am going to keep for sentimental reasons. Good Luck.

Don't know about that doodad, but i know that as my Ranch Rifle warms up, the POI goes up and right. I haven't tried it with a IR thermometer, but i'm quite confident that the POI/bbl temperature is a linear relationship - knowing the round count and the time-between-shots, I know where the next one will go...No big deal after you've done the field research.

I like a cold zero, for hunting purposes; and the rest falls into place....i mean, after dumping two mags, are you really going for everything in the ten-ring, ...from the hip?

The sling loop on the front end attaches to the gas block; if you're replacing that piece, a company makes an adjustable gas block so your brass won't take out the guy in the next lane. /My 180- is good for sending the brass a good 30- to 40 feet, so i've contemplated getting one, although the price has been a deterrent to date.

I haven't done a scientific/benchrest test yet but since adding a second-hand "accu-strut" to my ranch rifle, I've been able to hit pop cans offhand at 50 yards. Before adding the accustrut I was lucky to hit a paper plate at 50 yards.

There are several cheaper/homemade variations out there; you can read up at the perfectunion forums.

Very nice grouping. I can get 3 MOA (3" with cold and hot barrel) out of my 580 series using run of the mill ammo with the mini stock from the factory. This is more than adequte for my needs (for this rifle - social plinking, self-defense) but I'm happy to see there are options for those who want it to do better.

The newer ones with the thicker barrels(late 580 series and newer) are a lot better in terms of accuracy and consistency. My 580 mini with a 16 barrel can consistently(cold and hot) shoot less than 2.5MOA groups.
