I've been trying to disassemble my Ruger MkII, but once I drop the hammer and flip out the lever on the bottom of the main spring housing, I cant get the housing to pull out of the grip frame.

It's 100% stuck, a little wiggle room to the sides, but it remains flush with the frame regardless of how much I pull on it. I really dont want to bugger the finish using pliers or vice grips, any suggestions on how I might get it unstuck?

Sounds like the hammer is not fully released. From the troubleshooting guide.

Tilt pistol downwards, squeeze trigger, and strike muzzle on a block of wood to force hammer forward.

I had this happen to my MKIII. I just hit it with my hand a few times and it worked.

A few sharp raps as rxraptor said should do the trick.

I agree. I had the same issue when I try to go to fast. Sometime things move when you pull the lever down.

Good luck getting it back together. :neener:

I tried the wooden block suggestion, it had no effect. I finally decided to put a piece of cloth in my smooth-faced vice, grabbed the little tab in the vice, and rotated the pistol. The MSH popped right out, it was just really, really stuck in there due to not being cleaned in a while.

Then I dropped the bolt :cuss: and had to spend a while trying to find the retaining pin and figure out how the firing pin spring & flat metal thing go back in there.

It went back together just like I remember from the last time, with lots of annoyance.

Awesome information here. Just used the links to get my Pac-lite uppered MKII 22/45 apart. Thanks for posting them Raptor!

And yes, Google was not much help. THR to the rescue! :D

I'd been looking for this thread, I finally figured out why my pistol was so hard to disassemble:
The pin that holds the flip-out tab in the MSH wasnt fully flush with the sides, it protruded to one side and was thus dragging on the frame. A quick blow with a brass punch & hammer taught it who's boss.
