I've been offered this Ruger for $400. It appears to be a 1974 model (1st year) with no other accessories and the claim that less than 50 rounds have been through it.
I've already got dies. Do you think it's a good deal?
If you buy that and want another, a local pawn shop has one just like it for $389. He said it's priced a little low to get it moved. 41 Magnum is a great round, but it's not as popular as 44 mag or 45 Colt
Most of the 7.5 in. models will probably be the Bisley model. My first handgun was a 6.5 in. Blackhawk in .41 mag. and while I really liked the gun, after starting to handload it was obvious to me that with heavy loads the Bisley grip frame was much less abusive to the strong hand. The Blackhawk grip was simply taking skin off of my hand, even with leather gloves because the gun "rolls up" in recoil just like a SA Colt. The Bisley grip just comes straight back into the palm of your hand without leaving skidmarks much like a S&W N FRAME. I found a NIB 7.5 in. fluted Bisley in .41 mag., bought it and would not trade it for anything else. Loads that are abusive in my S&W M57 are easy to shoot all day in the Bisley. To really appreciate the .41 mag. you need to handload it. Even though there are many more factory loads available in .41 mag. now than there was 30 years ago, handloading gives you more choices in bullet weights and power levels.
Well it has a little rust spot or 3 on the trigger, but it locks up super tight. I also got a 50 round box with 6 rounds in it, but no used brass. The price on the box is $56 so I don't expect that was bought in 1974 with the revolver.
Overall I'm happy with it and am looking forward to shooting it when I get my hands on some brass and bullets.
I paid under $400 new for my 41 mag Blackhawk but like everything else, the price has gone up on them. I think you did just fine and I hope you enjoy it.
Congratulations Jim.
I think you did well, that's a pretty clean gun & with some ammo too.
My only caution would be to make sure that ammo is factory before you shoot it, but if handloads he probably shot them in it. I'm leery of handloads I didn't load or a trusted friend loaded.
I think you did ok.
We'll need a range report when you get it to the range.
I think you are going to like the .41 Mag.
Check out the .41 Mag. thread in this forum, lots of .41 users here.
