Brand spanking new Ruger p345 (safety version, not decocker only) and it works like a charm, there's just one thing that concerns me. When I activate the decocker/safety the firing pin is cammed foward and the hammer drops, as it should. When I pull the trigger with the safety on the hammer moves back like it should, but sometimes it drops too. I'm not too concerned because the safety prevents it from striking the firing pin, but I was under the impression the hammer is supposed to be unable to drop when the trigger is pulled with the safety on.

Has anyone else experienced this? It happens when I'm working the trigger quickly and don't let the trigger travel all the was back to its normal resting position and when i pull the trigger firmly and hold it to the rear.

Huh? Unless the P345 is different, that's not the way Ruger autos work. On my P90, when the safety is on the hammer moves not at all when the trigger is pulled.

If you have concerns, call Ruger.

My former Ruger KP345 had a safety issue also with the safety on. If I pulled the trigger about 10 to 25 times with the safety on, I could get the hammer to drop.

Return it to Ruger as I did. Call Ruger and have them send you a prepaid mailing label. I still have my repair invoice from my Ruger repair, but I don't recall exactly what it said.

If Ruger lawyers were aware of a safety issue, then I'll bet that my invoice had a vague repair description.

Let Ruger fix it. Their service dept has treated me well on the several times that I have used them.

wow, i was suprised to see this thread alive again, since initially there were no responses.

I'm not too concerned about this since even if the hammer drops with the safety on the weapon cannot fire as the firing pin is cammed foward. I was just curious if its a common occurrence.

The simple solution for me was to stop pulling the trigger with the safety on, since there's really no good reaon to do so anyway. I was just playing around with the gun trying to get a feel for the trigger when whis issue first came up, but i can't get a good feel for the trigger pull with the safety on anyway since it doesn't drop at the same point.
