I ordered one a week ago, its supposed to come sometime this week. I haven't shot one before but I did shoot a P 90 and liked it. I don't think its ugly at all

Give it time. I didn't really find mine ugly at first either, but it was my first handgun ever and I didn't even know much about handguns when I bought it. (grew up shooting mostly shotguns). At the time, I just read pretty much everywhere that it was a good choice for a "bargain" handgun once you stepped past the junk brands. Thank GOD I didn't end up buying the DAO model :). I saw "Manual Safety Version" and figured "Eh, safety is good I guess.". Now though, compared to designs like the S&W M&P, Ruger SR9, CZ-75, etc, my P95 certainly ain't much of a looker. I'll never sell it though - it shoots well despite it's homeliness :).

I will say though that while it might look ugly, it doesn't look "wrong" :D. Certain pistols just don't look right. The Hi-Point for example is one. The shape just looks wrong. The Tokarev TT-33's grip frame kinda looks "wrong" too. The Walther P-38 with it's bare barrel. Things like that. Heck I'll say that the Luger P-08 looks "wrong" despite being a beautiful pistol that I'd love to own.

By contrast, the Ruger P-series still has the silhouette that looks the way a pistol is supposed to look. Kinda like a girl that's a little heavier than the best looking ones but still has all the right curves and knows what she's doin :p.

And plenty of new pistols have a manual safety that is on the frame and not on the slide that clicks downward to fire (like Ruger SR series, some XDs, some M&Ps, FNs, some CZs, 1911, and Hi Power pistols).
This is much more intuitive when drawing to fire rather than an upward click on the slide.

Well the FNs, CZs, 1911s and Hi Powers are certainly not new pistols.

Additionally, I don't think that "intuitive" is quite the right descriptor. It may be a more commonly used design that feels comfortable after practice, but the upward flick could be just as comfortable with practice and familiarity.

I can't say enough good things about my P95. It seems to feed, fire and eject whatever I feed through it, is accurate and fits my hand well. I've heard some complain the trigger feels mushy but personally I don't find that to be the case. The only thing I don't like about the P series pistols are the hammers and the little notched out part on the very top where your thumb is supposed to go. It makes it difficult for me to grip with mine but that wasn't a deal breaker for me.

Why would your thumb ever be on the hammer? All of the P-series either have a decocker, combo safety/decocker, or are DAO. While I'll go ahead and thumb down a hammer on a gun with no decocker, I must say that doing so on a gun that has a perfectly good decocker just isn't a good thing.

I would sometimes thumb-cock the hammer if I wanted my first shot to be single-action but I had already chambered a round and decocked the hammer previously.

I do utilize the decocker at times but not always. Sometimes I will ride the hammer down slowly with my thumb out of habit. I also sometimes do it for the reason easyg described as well.

I've had my P95DC for about 6 years now. I own the one with the stainless slide, and I have to say out of all of the guns (mostly rifles) that have come and gone from my collection this one stays next to my bed every night and probably will for years to come. It is reliable as can be, shoots anything I feed it, and best of all probably one of the most accurate pistols in its proce range. Also the finish makes it easy to maintain. Overall, 2 thumbs up.

Mine's within arms reach every night---well that, and a Mossberg 500 loaded with 00 buck---the P95 is a fantastic gun and downright better than many guns costing twice as much.

I will say that Ruger has a winner in the P95. The personal opinions of the few aren't design flaws, but something that they don't care for.

As for being ugly, that's a crock. I've owned mine since they came out, and it looks the same today to me, as it always did. Again, a matter of opinion.

For the people who have decided that "$100 isn't much in a handgun purchase", it may very well be. Then again, if $100 isn't bad, is $300? Or $1000?

The P95 is an excellent pistol.

It's durable, as another pointed out at his thread (it's just few threads from this one) simple, user friendly, and accurate.

That's why I bought one as my first ever semi-auto. Since the blued version worked so well I went and bought a stainless model.

There are a lot of P95 fans at the two Ruger forums at the bottom of my avatar if anyone wants to check that out.

I have small hands and short fingers, yet the Ruger fit well.

Not to highjack the thread here or anything....But does anyone have any modifications done to their P95? Either home-grown or factory? Looking for something to do to mine to change it up a little.

it's certainly not the prettiest or most comfortable, but it's reliable and it shoots straight. makes a hell of a good truck gun for me :)
