This rifle is currently in it's "Gen 3" iteration and the chief modification seems to be an M-Lok handguard. Anyone have any positive/negative feedback on this particular rifle? It seems to be a big seller for Ruger.

I have the Gen1 so I cant comment on the current model. I like mine a lot though. It's more accurate than me and a 10x scope so I'm not quite sure what it can do past 500 yards. I think if you are looking at getting into that type of rifle, it has a lot to offer for the price.

MLOK is a plus.

The iterations from Gen 1 to 3 have all been improvements over the last. I’m not as much a fan of the m-lok for security as I am of Key-mod, but it works well enough and undeniably has a broader market following. The new rail is solid, as it should be.

The opportunity to purchase and self install replacement barrels is nice. Mag compatibility is nice. The 3 lug 60* throw is fast. My only complaint is the relatively poor stock, which demands replacement with a slightly less poor stock for a precision rifle. The folding feature is kinda gimmicky, but it locks up relatively solid for its price point. The only complaint I really have is the fact it doesn’t take AW mags, otherwise, it’s a great factory option at its price.

It’s not necessarily any more accurate than any other factory rifle in the price class, which is to say it’ll shoot very small. Mine are a 6.5 and 6, both Gen 2. The major change happened between 1 and 2, the 3 is largely just a new handguard.

I've got a GEN 1 that's been re-barreled to 6mm SLR with a Bartlein.

Got it on sale as a .243 and put about 1500 rds through it prior to re-barreling it. As it came from the factory it was a solid 3/4 MOA rifle with a couple loads doing slightly better. My original intent was to re-barrel it in 6.5C , but I enjoyed the .243 so much I opted for the 6mm SLR.

Friend of mine has a GEN 2 in 6.5C and is very happy with it.

From what I've read/seen, yes. But, while not wanting to start another LR caliber war, with the 6.5C and 6mmC so available I wouldn't give the .308 a hard look.
Chuck R, Noticed the 11th Cav patch, I spent a year with them 69-70, back to business, why did you rebarrel? was there that much wear after 1500 rounds?

Actually no, it wasn't showing much wear yet, but when the factory barrel heated up, group size opened up some. Life expectancy for a .243 is reported to be around 1100 or so, but mine was still doing "OK". Withe the length of time it takes to get a barrel done, there wasn't much sense in waiting for it to crap out. Once it arrived I couldn't wait to try it out, so off went the.243 barrel. Biggest other difference I found with the Bartlein, was the ease of working up a load. I tried basically the same loads I tried in the .243 and everything was well under 1MOA, best 5 shot went into 3/8s. It has been fairly consistent at 1/2 MOA.

I was with the Black Horse much later, 87-90 in Fulda.

Thought about a Ruger Precision Rifle, gen 3, in 6.5 Creedmor. Ended up going with a Bergara B-14 in 6,5 Creedmor (5R bbl) today. The action is a Rem 700 clone so that the aftermarket is there, I have lots of R700 parts for building a rifle if I don't love the stock and will move one of my precision scopes to this rifle...either a Vortex Razor 5-20x50 gen 1 or a Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x56. I expect 2,000 round life and will replace with an appropriate bbl when needed...barrels are like razor blades.

Range report to follow.

Cheers,
