Ruger Recall of SR9 Pistols

If people waited a couple of years to buy something new, nobody would ever own a new anything.

As for the contention that 17 rounds of 9mm won't do you any good if the gun doesn't work... it's a DROPPING issue with the safety off... not a cycling problem. Hopefully, in the middle of a firefight, I wouldn't be dropping my weapon...:what:

Sounds more like a problem if you surrender...:D

OMG it has a Glock trigger

Ripoff? YES!! I thought the trigger was the only thing Glock patented!?! Buutt, I can't freakin' WAIT to get mine! :D:D

Shorter pull, new mag release, less over-travel!

It is almost impossible to adequately field test any product at the factory. look at the tens of millions of dollars the car companies put into testing new models and they always end up with problems the first year or two.

Interesting update... I was especially interested to see that there was a change in the magazines that's somehow slipped by unnoticed, which is leading me to think that there may be even more that we don't know about.
I can see the need to change out the striker block and striker, and maybe the trigger assembly just to keep things working, but unless the magazine was causing part of the problem, I don't see what the issue there was.

It was advertised as a "dropping" issue with the safety off, and unless the pistol was loading itself as well, I fail to see how the magazine was involved, unless it pushed something mechanically that forced the problem. I'd love to see the design drawings of it to do a bit of "engineering investigation".

Guess I'll just have to make photos of "before and after" and try to figure it out from that.

I don't have a link to a thread Wristtwister but if you go to www.rugerforum.com anduse the search function you will see that there were many complaints about the original SR-9 magazines before this issue came up. I think they just decided to clean it all up at the same time. I don't own a SR-9 but was interested in one. Just been kinda standing back watching things develop.

MY SR9 goes out today, UPS will be picking it up at some point. I filled out the online form for the refit on April 9th, now its August 5th and its finally going back.

Got a call yesterday from a very nice lady at Ruger to let me know that UPS would be arriving today or I could have it shipped out and delivered back to my work place. I figured the place I work wouldn't want me shipping guns back forth through them so I arranged to have it picked up at home.

I'll post a review of the refitted gun once I get it back from Ruger.

I got to send mine out last week, and they said it'll be about two weeks from the date it was picked up when it comes back.

Looked at some at the gun store on Saturday that had been returned from the retrofit, and they apparently now have a "glock" trigger setup with the two-stage trigger. The one I examined felt good, and the trigger was smoothe, so I'm hopeful that everything will be fine when mine gets back. I was a little disappointed that they were retrofitting "guns for sale" rather than the ones they had already sold first, but as long as they get it fixed, I'll get over it.

I wish I could have been a fly on the wall in the Ruger board room when one of those "rusty ratchet" triggered SR-9's were laid on the fancy polished walnut board table and the President tried it out.:cuss:

Please update THR members on how the retro-fitted triggers are compared to the originals.

I got my SR9 back a week or so ago. The new trigger is definitely heavier than it was but the travel is shorter and the overtravel is much shorter. It has a much crisper feel than the old trigger started with. None of that breaking like a green twig.

Hopefully it will wear in again and be better than it was.

The changed the magazine safety a little bit, but as far as I can tell dry firing without the magazine will still chew up the striker (unless you do like I did and pull out the mag safety).

JesseL,

Thanks. Dry firing with the mag in place is nothing more than a minor inconvenience, but I was curious since it is a practice different from my other semi-autos.

Big Surprise

Came home yesterday and there was a UPS notice on my door, so I went and picked up my SR-9 at the customer center... a full week earlier than I expected.

Nice new trigger... new mag... and a free hat (so I can advertise for them).
Now, I'm truly "high capacity"... 5 17-shot clips +1 in the pipe. I had already spent a few bucks on new mags when the recall happened, so I'm good to go with 86 rounds just by changing clips. I like that because I can have different types of bullets in the different clips... jhp's in one... +P's in one... fmj in one... or two... or three...:neener:

OMG... the ability to have "specialty shooting supplies" on the hip... what a deal!:D I'm happy as a clam now...

Just got my shipping box today. Ruger says to include all original parts, but I can't find the magazine safety, which I ripped out of there two days after I bought the thing. Hmmm.

I actually called ruger about this and they siad they will replace it if its missing free of charge so you will have to take it out again. they seemed to be cool about it. they also told me not to send my mags. I still have not gotten a box in the mail for mine.

Well I got my SR9 back the other day. Not too bad, it went out on the 5th and was returned on the 14th. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but the trigger feels a little better. I probably take it out on Friday and see how she performs.

Here's a pic of her....
