I found a like new Stainless Single Six, ~6" barrel, with both the 22LR and Mag cylinder at the pawnshop today, they are asking $400. Was wondering if thats about right or if its a bit high?

I'm starting to really enjoy shooting rimfire guns, so this one caught my eye.

Any thoughts on it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I bought one exactly like it brand new for $339.00 in October of 2007. The same gun brand new at Cabela's was only (only) $419.00. So $400.00 for a used one at a pawn shop sounds a little high.

Most pawn shops will deal. Even if it's minty you could probably walk out of there with it for $350 or so, which if in excellent condition would be a pretty good buy.

Pawn shop items are often tagged for suckers

Commonly at or near new prices. Remember, they've got about a quarter of its actual value in it, tops. That doesn't mean they'll sell it cheap, because they've seen enough suckers take the bait. It does mean that you respectfully ask for their bottom dollar, cash, and do your due diligence beforehand so you know what it's actually worth. Which is of course what you're doing. Also, there's a lot to be said for a cooling off period.

Check blue book, gun auctions (what they're asking isn't necessarily what they're getting) and other stores for values. Try the gun, test the lockup, check for wobbles, scrapes and timing (but don't dry fire without permission). Then ask the question, see if they'll take $20 dollars less, and have the cash in your pocket.

If you pay sticker price in a pawn shop, you're unlikely to get the money out of the gun when you go to sell it.

Way to high for a pawn shop gun.

I've found many great deals on guns in pawn shops over the years, but that has stopped in the last couple of years.:banghead:

i got my used LNIB single six with 22lr and 22mag cylinders 500 rounds of 22lr and bianchi western holster for 300$ best deal i have made in my life
so i think 400$ is to high see what other stors are selling them for

I see them sell used fairly often in blue sub $300. I wish I could find a cheap used Bearcat.

I figured it was a bit high, most of the newer rifles he has are at full retail pricing.

I checked it out and everything was nice and tight with the mag cylinder, he said the box and LR cylinder were in the back room.
I'll go check with the guy I buy most of my stuff from tomorrow, see what he can do for a price maybe.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Too high. Bought an excellent condition, second-hand stainless Single Six convertible at Grice's gunshop (Clearfield, PA) for $289 last summer. Prices may be going up, but not that fast. Keep looking, or work him down.

I've purchased a slightly beat one for $195 last year, and stupidly passed up a 90% one (with both cylinders) for $175 a year before that.

I've almost never seen a used Bearcat cheaper than a new ($325-350), except at a pawnshop in Seattle this Christmas for $225 (but I'm no longer a WA resident, so no dice).

However, used SS seem to have gone up in price a good $50 over the last year (inflation, etc.?), so I'd say anywhere in the mid $200s is a great price. You see them come up on Gunbroker for mid to high $200s if they're somewhat worn.
