I am curious as to what new and used Ruger Single Sixes sell for in your particular areas. I ask because though I have always kept my eyes open for one, the prices seem so ridiculous in my area that I've pretty much thrown in the towel. I have a Heritage Rough Rider Combo 5.5" that I paid $150 NIB for, and it is a wonderful if somewhat crude little gun. So I am satisfied for the time being.

Four or five years ago, NIB Single Sixes could be purchased for $279 - 300. Then, one day, the price jumped to $400. New or used, didn't matter. For about the last year or two, NIB Single Sixes sell for between $450 and $500 where I live. Used examples are priced the same or even higher, often $500 and up. I saw a used one not long ago for $550, and the last used example I saw was priced at $600. That's getting into S&W K-22 territory :scrutiny:. For the most part, they are in good condition, though I laughed out loud at a $500 example with about 50% of it's blued finish remaining, sans the 22 LR cylinder. I saw that one 2 years ago.

Also note that none of these used ones have been the more collectable 3 screw "old" models.

So what are prices like in your area? I'm just starting to think the local population where I live more highly desires Single Sixes than other parts of the country. They do seem to get snatched up rather quickly, even at these prices.

I looked at a SS Convertible at a local shop for $428. NIB. Another shop had a used but mint stainless 6.5" barrel for $410. Just what I saw here in CT.

Although you aren't likely to find one, the rare(only 300 made)stainless Model KNR4 4-5/8 barrel convertible Single-Six, bluebooks for $1,000 so dealers would be asking more than this! Luckily, I happen to have one of these NIB.

$250.00 each a couple of months ago.

They were priced at $275.00 and $299.00 but I made an offer and they accepted it. The same dealer had another one a few weeks later at the same price, with a rather ratty looking box. I figured I had enough.

I have no idea what "new models" sell for.

Wow I sure wish I could get one for $250. Maybe you should start buying them and reselling them to people in more "price challenged" areas, LOL.

I figured I had enough.
I'll take your word for it...but...

Here is a NIB KNR-4 SS with a Buy Now price of $460.

Nice gun!

How's the balance and one handed cocking?

From my understanding, the SS have a SS grip frame while the others use a lighter alloy giving the SS version a heavier butt.

Just wondering how it feels with the shorter barrel and heavier butt.

im in upstate NY. the prices range from $400-$550 used ( old model and new models) New: $560-$750.

i suggest buying any firearm you are considering now, from my research the prices keep going up every year ( at least in my area)

my number one rule to getting the best deal on guns: Ask around. i acquired 3/4 of my guns cheaply just asking people at my local gun club. i also bought my ruger 3 screw this way, it never hurts to ask.

Luckily, I've never been burdened with that type of thinking.

Well there are other guns out there. Right now, there's a Smith & Wesson Model 10 with my name on it.

I do have one new model that my wife and I got several years ago. It's a 50th anniversary one that was LNIB. We paid if my old memory is right $329.00 for that one, which seemed high at the time, but I don't have any idea what a more recent "new model" would sell for.

And the pair above. They're both from 1958, so no magnum cylinders. One has a five digit S/N, the other a low six digit. The older one (with the wood grips) has been converted to a transfer bar. The other one is original.

They did another run of 4 5/8" stainless models for Lipsey's a couple years ago.

When I lived in Florida, I bought three for $200, $225 and $250. One Old Model and two New Models.

Ruger lovers have their own forum with a great classified section. Prices for Single Sixes seem to run between $350 to $450. Saw a flatgate for $1000. Check it out.

A beautiful NIB 50th anniversary model with 4 5/8" barrel sold yesterday on GunBroker for $375 final price. If I wasn't waiting to get a permit it would have been sold to me.

I'm crying a little on the inside as I write this.

I bought a new Single Six Convertible last September. It was 395 out the door. Adjustable sights, black plastic grips, 4 5/8" barrel, and both cylinders. I thought it was a good enough deal.

If that model 10, has a six inch tapered barrel on it, then it has my name on it. :D

Im happy to say that I picked up this used single six with both cylinders for $300 last month. It came with some really beautiful custom black mother of pearl grips with wood backers. Its about 25 years old. but in nice condition.

I've also been looking for a Ruger SS, in stainless, if possible.
Local gunshop had a beat on blue 6.5" for 300 dollars. Put a deposit on it, then thought better of it. Cylinder was rusted, probably the barrel as well.
Not worth the money to replace, reblue, etc.
I'm paying 495 for a new 6.5" with both cylinders, in Stainless. Couple blued are around 450 new, in our local shop, in the Bay area.

When I looked at the new run, I'm impressed with the quality, much better then the new ones I looked at 10 years ago, for 300 dollars, and passed on.

I've not even seen a SS stainless in our area in 5-7 years, in our local shops, or, I would have bought it.

John Taffin and Gary Reeder both recommended the new Ruger SSixs for 22lr.
Now I see why.

What is th KNR-4 model, and how can you tell it from other stainless models with the wood grips. The reason I ask, I bought one that looks like the one on Gunbroker. Thanks.

Forget about what the Obama Administration says about inflation, prices are going through the roof, especially the prices of anything with steel in them. The Single-Six guns are going to continue to go up, so you'd just as well swallow hard and buy one! I got mine cheap, years ago. Not only is steel going up -- so is craftsmanship. Polymer guns are the wave of the future, and guns like the Single-Six are becoming more expensive to produce. It's one reason guns like S&W's second and third generation autos can't be produced for prices much under a grand (not to mention the already-overpriced 1911s on the market). So they're not.

I'd get a stainless steel model, as they can be polished to look like nickel and they hold their value better.

Used.......

........325 to 425, depending on condition. I have to laugh when I read in the forums that someone should save for a used ( submit premium brand name here ). It seems that the used market is only slightly cheaper than the new. The trade-off I guess is that a lot of the older stuff was made better IMHO. I just paid $410 for a blued Speed Six in pristine condition off of GB. Was going to get a Sp101 until someone posted pictures here at my request comparing the size of the two. That became my " Grail " gun then, so the high price was worth it to me, especially after shooting it:D. Besides, the SP is still in production and not going anywhere soon, where as the Speed Six prices just seem to be going higher.
