I recently purchased two new handguns, the Ruger SR40 and SR45.
I purchased both guns from CDNN about 10 days apart. Both pistols are in two tone form.
After purchasing each gun, first thing to do was to remove the magazine disconnect and clean what looked like chassis lube from each striker. The SR45 appeared to come from Ruger with almost no lube on the gun. The SR40 had a slight bit of lube on it.
Gave both guns a thorough cleaning and lubing and re-assembled.
I was a little worried about the SR45, my SR45 exhibited the same symptoms and Justin Opinion from YouTube. My SR45 when you pulled the trigger and cycled the slide slowly, it would get hung up momentarily. Inserting a loaded magazine into the SR45 with the slide closed proved to be a chore as well, you really had to smack the mag in. Since I insert loaded mags into a pistol with the slide locked open it is very easy. I have 4 mags for my SR45 and each mag holds the slide open when empty.
The SR40 seemed to be an excellent example, it came from the factory with polished internals. I was really impressed with the SR40.
Fast forward to yesterday, a buddy of mine and I went to our local indoor range. He had to test out his new to him G19.
I am pleased to report that both the SR40 and SR45 are great shooting guns. Each gun has an almost identical smooth trigger.
SR40:
I ran ~150 rounds through the gun with no FTEs or FTFs. Every time an empty mag would hold the slide open on the last shot. I had shot a mixture of WWB, TulAmmo, and a few hollow points and the SR40 ate everything it was fed and asked for more. I am very pleased with accuracy, if I did my part I could get good groupings at 7 yards. The SR40's trigger was really smooth OOB so the trigger was consistent through the session.
SR45:
I ran ~200 rounds through the gun with no FTEs or FTFs as well. The SR45 was fed a mixture of Wolf, Federal aluminum, and some assorted brass. All bullets were 230gr FMJ. The SR45 also had very good accuracy if I did my part. After about 150 rounds the trigger was smoothing out a touch(which I have read is usually the case for this pistol).
Both guns I tried to get them to jam by limp wristing them on purpose. They just kept on shooting.
All in all I am very pleased with both guns. I have been what you could call a Ruger fanboy for many years and these two didn't disappoint.
