Ruger SR9: Any Good?

My friend just bought the SR9c and it is a great pistol. He has put a few hundred rounds through it and has had one misfire which was a bad round. It is very accurate for a small pistol and not as snappy as I had expected.

If I had not just bought a Glock 23 I would probably be getting a SR40c. He paid less for his NEW Ruger than I paid for my used Gen 3 glock.

I got rid of my sr9c. I was irritated that the camlock pin kept falling out of the frame while it was being shot. First mag through the gun it fell out. Then if fell out over and over. I could of sent it back to ruger but I was like what the hey "this isnt cool" so I traded it. Had a sweet trigger though I must say.

^^^ ALL firearms have bad examples fall through the cracks. I wouldn't let one sample turn you away from a given line. I've fondled several 9mm compacts and I think the SR9/SR9c are excellent for the money. Also, I've ready many good things about them from actual owners.

The SR9 is an excellent gun. I just bought my second one, having sold my first one to a friend in a moment of mental weakness! :) The trigger on the new one is better than the original one I had and the mag release works better too. I use mine for exactly what you mentioned, target shooting, ccw and home defense. Gun is slim, lightweight, accurate, and holds 17 rounds. Good buy for the money!

Outstanding pistol in my opinion. Mine's sitting here, stripped for cleaning as I type this. I have an early 330 model. Never an issue and the trigger really cleaned up after a few hundred rounds. I recently installed a Ghost Ultimate 3.5 trigger connector just cuz I like to play. It took a, by then, good trigger to great. I'd like to try the new ones and a compact to see how they compare. You won't go wrong with the Ruger.

I have an SR9-C and I love it! Its awesome! Its very accurate, soft recoil, and the ergo's are great for me. For the money, show me a better 9mm pistol.

My brother has an SR9. It's an excellent gun, especially for the price. The trigger is just so-so (not sure how to explain it - just kind of "hard"), but I find it to be a VERY accurate shooter.

PROS:
-good ergonomics
-very accurate
-very slim (a double stack that's the same width as a 1911)
-very nice standard sights
-low price
-great Mec-Gar made magazines
-very reliable (100% through over 2000 rounds in my bro's)
-soft recoil

NEGATIVES:
-"hard trigger" - still better than a Glock
-fit & finish is so-so (lots of flashing on polymer frame - much better than Ruger P-series though)
-silly loaded chamber indicator (looks like a big shark's fin - Walther, S&W, and about everyone else does a simpler & better LCI)
-fumbly take-down
-magazine disconnect safety
-manual safety is tiny and kind of pointless

I purchased an SR9 and it works great. I have had no problems with it at all. I also have a Beretta 92FS that I like a lot, but you will not go wrong with the SR9. I keep mine at the ready with hollow points for home defense.

I purchased my SR9c because it was 100 dollars and some change cheaper than a glock 26/19. It is a great gun with the best trigger I've ever used on a polymer gun. However, recently I've been wishing I had gotten the glock just because of the massive after market for it.

The SR9c is still my EDC though. Its very accurate and reliable.

I have an SR9c and an SR40 that I think very well of - so much so, that on Friday I bought a fullsize SR9. I put 400 rounds through it on Saturday - 200rds of WWB and 200rds of cast handloads - without a single bobble or issue.

They are quite accurate in my hands, slim, have a better-than-average trigger for a striker-fired pistol, and in general are quite the bargain. I fully intend to make the SR9 and SR40 my weekly range mules and see how well they hold up.

Carter-I don't know exactly what you are wanting for you SR series pistol but if you want to do work on the trigger there is a company called Galloway Precision that is making parts for them. I think Ghost is marketing some stuff also. Not really my thing but I have seen a lot of posts about it at rugerforum.com.

I don't own one of these yet but I'm really wanting a SR40c. I need to build my funds up first though.

I've got a SR9c and I love it's design, ergonomics, and it's trigger. Sights are also great and very easy to pick up quickly. The gun itself is extremely reliable and more than accurate enough for it's intended purpose. Overall I'm very satisfied with my choice for a CCW.

Love my SR9c. I shoot it the best of my pistols. The trigger is great and accuracy is top notch for a smaller gun. If you go the compact route it comes with a 17 round mag with a spacer so you can still have a larger round capacity if you want.

I bought the Ruger SR9 about 3 months ago and...

it is one of the best 9mm on the market. It is a real bargain and I like it very much.

I don't have an SR9 but I do have an SR9c and it has performed extremely well so far (about 800 rounds so far).
No failures and no problems and very accurate too.

I meant holsters. I love shoulder holsters even though most people tend to hate them. Finding a good vertical shoulder holster is almost impossible, and those that do make them usually don't make one for my two pistols (sr9c and cz phantom). Getting a mainstream gun like a glock would solve that problem. But my sr9c is still an excellent handgun.

My LGS had the SR9 and SR9c on sale the past couple of weeks for $445 (not particularly great, but with transfer fees I probably couldn't do much better buying online)

They also had a USED M&P 9 on sail for $450.

I was starting to get the itch for one of those really bad, but dithered too much and didn't get in for the sale :(

I still plan to get and SR9, not sure if I want a full size or compact. I really want it for a console gun..I don't want to put a very expensive gun in there, but I also want something I will have fun with at the range.

I like mine. Fits my hand well, no problems or issues. I may do some trigger work (ghost), but no complaints. I would buy another one.

I bought my SR9c recently and I really like it. I paid tax and all $428.00
I also shot it recently for the first time and fired fifty rounds at 25' and 35'.

Can't help with the SR9 but the SR9C is a sweet gun. Nice out of the box trigger which I understand can be further upgraded with aftermaket parts. Mine is more accurate than I am, recoil is a breeze and you are right back on target. Grip feels good and I think it has nice balance. Got mine for $389.00 and it's more than worth it.

I've had my sr9 for almost 2 years now. Put many rounds through it, of all different varieties. It takes whatever I give it. Never a jam, nothing. The trigger felt a bit gritty when I first got it, but smoothed itself out quickly. Excellent gun. Very slim too.

I like the SR9 so much, I am thinking about buying SR9c too.

I like them much better than my Glocks. In the past few years Ruger has hit several home runs with their new products. All are quality guns at reasonable prices too.
