A few months ago, I was eyeing an SR9. My dealer had a new one for $420 and I decided I'd wait til he had a used one so I could get a great deal on it. Well, I just stopped in there a few days ago to find that he's selling new ones for $460 now, which is a sudden $40 increase since the last time I visited. He did have a used one too--a blued version for $350, and not the latest generation with the "D" shaped mag release. I figured the used one is probably higher priced than it would have been before and just walked out.

Then I checked the 2011 gun value book and discovered that the retail and used prices for the SR9 have NOT increased at all since 2010. So what's the deal? I'd ask the dealer but he always talks BS when I try talking to him about anything. He never gives me a break on any of his prices either.

Yeah, that's what this dealer was originally charging a couple months ago. At the time, I had figured a used one would probably go for about $310, so it stands to reason that it's now actually $350 since the new one had also gone up $40.

New Ruger SR9's at the local gun show today were priced at $399. Ruger SR9c's were going for $409.

i have the 2 tone black slide and od green frame and paid $429 a year or so ago at my local gun shop. it is an excellent weapon and eats anything you feed it. many rounds thoough it eithout a single malfunction. i think it is an excellent high value gun for the money. i have 6- 17 round mags so i can hold alot of ammo to go if i have to. worth every penny. find a good deal and grab it up. Rugers just run.. and run..and run..

These lower prices you guys are reporting makes me wonder what's up with my dealer suddenly charging $470 for a new one, up $40 from a couple months ago. Other dealers in the area charge so much more for everything, so he is basically the best one to go to in general. Just not anymore in this case.
If he were charging closer to $300 for the used blue one, I would have bought it by now.

when i paid $429 for mine at the local dealer over a year ago , Gander Mtn. had the same one for over $600. i did notice that the local sports store had one for $469 recently and their prices are usually good and comparable with my dealer. it does seem prices have gone up a little. maybee its time to grab one before they get higher. also keep in mind that the ones with the blackend slide run about $30 or so more than the shiney ss slide. at least around here they do.

Probably has something to do with the supply chain.

He just plain had to put more into the one you are seeing now. Was it configured any different such as bi tone or anything?

My brother picked one up about 3 weeks ago for $410 from a local gunshop. Seems like a pretty fair deal for what is shaping up to be a great semi-auto. He's already put about 500 rounds through it with ZERO problems.

Just saw both the Black and Stainless SR9c going for $372 to $385 OTD  depending on the table at the gun show this last wkend they came with one 10 and one 17 round mag but they all know each others prices  and cash is king :neener: so they will play lets make a deal not to lose a sale just walk around and take note on whom and where the table is :uhoh:

Gander is a known price gouger, I saw a chincy Ruger KP345 at one in the twin cities marked up at $640.00! Even Bill's Gun Shop(another well known gouger)sells Ruger 345's for under $420.00...

You have to be very careful these days buying firearms from local dealers, and completely avoid the big box gouger's such as Gander Mt...It's really amazing that they get away with it, but for every well informed consumer there are twenty who haven't a clue...

i like to go to Gander Mtn. to handle some guns that i might be interested in buying bc they have a large selection. then i go to my local dealer to order what i want bc his prices are good and i like to support the local buisnesses whenever possible. he cant afford to have a huge selection in stock, but can usually get you what you want. nice guy too if you dont go in there thinking you know it all. Ganders prices are way more than anyone around here. super high mark up.

I believe some shops bumped prices because of the recent shooting and the Dems and Obama talking up gun control.

We know they never let a good crisis go to waste.
Oh, and those shops were correct, sales HAVE gone up.
So it's not surprising to me.

I invest in Ruger and they talked about this during their last conference call. When they stopped taking new orders because they couldn't keep up demand they figured they would take a large hit. So after they resumed taking orders again the put in a 10-15% price hike to soften the blow from not being able to take new orders. That's for dealers though. So your dealer is probably just passing that price hike onto the consumer rather than take some of the blowback themselves. In my opinion it's kind of a crappy move on the dealers part but also not to be unexpected. Some of your really good dealers abdorb the price hike themselves to keep from losing quality clients. some are just a**holes though. In it to make a buck. IMHO the guns they put out are still worth the price you pay and for the quality you're still underpaying but Ruger has stated that this increase will only be temporary until the market let's up. So in a couple months you'll probably see the price drop again.

. In it to make a buck.

SO? Called BUSINESS - just like your doctor, grocery store, tire shop - if they don't make that buck, they'll be gone tomorrow.

And as to "gouging" there is no such thing when you have a choice and you willing pay their price. One guy too high? Go someplace else and stop whining about it. Guns have different prices all over the internet - depends on local demand, ability of the retailer to get any inventory, his costs of doing business, including local taxes, etc.

10% increase sounds like your retailer passed on his cost - if you expect him to eat that, when that is about his profit, it isn't going to happen
