Ruger Super Wrangler

I was wondering the same thing, particularly with regards to accuracy. I currently have the standard Wrangler but have not been impressed with its accuracy. I’m tempted to trade up to the Super Wrangler for a longer barrel, target sights, and a magnum cylinder. They’re also going for $279 in my area.

What's funny is when I first got my standard Wrangler I couldn't hit anything with it now after it's broken in it's one of my most accurate single action guns

I’ve heard of other people having the same experience. How many round do you have through it? I probably have close 500 and only a possibly slight improvement (even from the bench)

Only about 100 rounds I'm sure some of it is just me I've got the bird's head grip and it may have taken me a while to get a feel for it

I have a super wrangler, I've had it about a month or so. I haven't shot it tons, but one thing a lot of people overlook is that it's not uncommon for 22LR to not shoot as well from a 22 Mag gun since it is a slightly different diameter, much like the 9mm cylinder on the 357 Blackhawk convertible. I've found that 22LR shoots okay from it, haven't grouped it yet but it's good enough for plates at 25yds and that 22Mag is more accurate...and a lot louder.

I've had two wranglers and still have one...both shot right to the sights right out of the box, after initial cleaning of course

Shot the Super Wrangler today to see how it groups. For 22LR I used CCI Mini Mag 40gr Target and for 22WMR I used CCI Maxi Mag 40gr Varmint. Maybe it was just me but the 22LR shot tighter than the 22 Mag, for what it's worth. The 22 Mag is cool to shoot though, a lot louder but a lot pricier. For a gun I bought for $239, it shoots excellent.

I had a Ruger Single Six convertible. It was the one that looked like the Vaquero and had a 6” barrel. Beautiful gun that was worthless for accuracy with .22 LR. It patterned. It didn’t group. With .22 Magnum it was a nice shooter and it grouped very well.
This experience soured me for a long time on whether or not I would buy another .22 Convertible.
I have steered clear of all the cheap .22 single actions but the more I read about the Wranglers the more I think perhaps I got a lemon in that Single Six. Maybe I should give a Super Wrangler a chance. Maybe.

Range Buddy got the Super, and he likes it. I've never seen this guy shoot anything but 22LR, so he knows what he's talking about when it comes to 22s. I have a non-Super birdshead, and it's fun, but I can hardly hit the 16" gong at 50 yds with those "sights". The sights on the Super are excellent.

The LGS said they had a black one coming in so I grabbed it. I wanted the silver black one but heck, this is the first one I've seen. I had a Ruger .22 wmr as a teenager like 50 years ago. I haven't bought a new gun since before last Christmas, well a gunpowder gun anyways so I'm feeling good!

Same thing with my Heritage Arms. It’s the 6” adjustable sights version. Given the little differences in velocities, I just sight in with the.22lr. The magnums shoot about 2” higher at 15yds…

I handled a Wrangler at the gun shop but wasn't really tempted. The Super Wrangler might change my mind. Besides, I need a .22 single action with a 5.5" barrel. I only have 4.6, 6.5, and 9.5 inch examples now.

IIRC. the Heritage guns and possibly the Wranglers aren't allowed in IL-ANNOY because of the method of manufacture - "low melting point metal".

What diameter do you think 22lr bullets measure? I have read that statement so many times. Some seem to think that 22lr bullets are .223 in diameter. I guess no one has ever taken the time to measure them. But I did. And no they are NOT .223 in diameter. Most were .224 up to .226. The same or larger than the bullets used in a 22 mag round. I doubt you would ever find a .001 difference in 22 bullets especially bulk made ammo.

Here are some random 22s I measured and none were less than .224. And they were measured with a real micrometer and not one of the cheap Harbor Freight calipers.
