I had my Ruger Vaqueror 357 mag revolver and my Smith and Wesson Sigma (9mm) at the range yester. With the Ruger revolver, I was putting 357 mags and 38s inside a six inch circle at 50 yards. However with the newly purchased 9mm, I was having trouble putting them on the paper at 10 yards. How'd that happen?

It's not you......that's the difference between a polymer, combat/self defense handgun and a well crafted all steel finely tuned revolver.

Hard to expect anything else.

Were the shots from the Sigma going low, or could you tell? Most semi-auto's are shooting low if you just switched over from revolver. I had that trouble for awhile and had to practice it out of me pretty hard.

I am new to guns kinda and know about nothing lol but i have a Sigma 9 and i dont have that problem at all seems i hit where i intend somewhat easily

You're comparing apples and oranges. Shoot your new S&W enough, and your accuracy will improve.

You have no trigger control on the Sigma. Pull the trigger without moving the sights.

From my limited (1) experiance with Sigma's it might have something to do with the 40lb trigger.

Practice dry-fireing untill the the sights don't move when you pull the trigger, then go back to the range.

Ruger Vaquero has a short, relatively light single action trigger pull.

Smith & Wesson Sigma has a long, relatively heavy double action trigger pull.

All other things being equal, the Sigma will be harder to shoot accurately.

I'm sure there are other factors, but those two jump out pretty quickly.

To a degree, but if you can't hit paper at 10 yards, that's not the gun unless you haven't regulated the sights. Bench that thing, only way to tell what the gun will do if you don't have a Ransom Rest. You can't possibly tell what it will do and what you need to try for by only shooting it off hand.

My tiny Kel Tec P11 can put five rounds into 3.5" off the bench at 25 yards. My Ruger Blackhawks can put 5 rounds into 4" at 100 yards. Not as bad as you're saying, but yeah, apples and oranges. I hunt with the Blackhawks, but not the Kel Tec obviously. But, the KT rides in my pocket as I type this and my Rugers are locked away. That KT is plenty effective for its intended purposes at combat ranges and I don't think the Sigma's trigger is any heavier or longer. I shoot the P11 quite well, but I've put 11K plus rounds through it over 12 years. Practice makes perfect, or if not perfect, good enough. :D

You will need to break in that trigger first of all. The Sigma has a rated 8.5lbs trigger bu from all the tests ive seen they pull at 11lbs or more. Sigmas used to have a problem with damaging the firing pin so I would invest in some Snap Caps just to be sure. Now with that said once you get tired of the 8lbs trigger find yourself a good smithy and have him do a trigger job down to about 4lbs. That will help you get a closer feel to the 3-4 lbs trigger of your Ruger.
