Yesterday I went to gunstore to buy a few things and me and the employee got to talking about my Russian SKS and another customer asked me if I wanted to sell or trade the SKS? What he had to trade was a Hungarian FEG 65? (spelling might be off) so the question I have since they are not making SKS's any nore will they increase in value in the future?

I've always felt that the Russian SKSs are something a little bit special. I spent over twice the cost of a Chinese one when I bought mine in the early '90s and, a year or so ago I could have sold it for at least twice what I paid for it. Today, with prices the way they are? Who knows?

I really wouldn't trade it for anything worth less than $600 - based on current prices, plus a bit because I really like it and don't want to be without it. Actually, I just wouldn't trade it, period, but I'm trying to put a dollar figure on it.

Will they continue to be rare (-er) and collectable? Absolutely. Will the value continue to rise? Almost certainly. Get rid of it? Nope.

If the value of owning a Russian to you is nil then I'd say go ahead and trade it. Personally I'll be keeping mine. Do I ever see being able to sell it and retire? Definitly not. But they are harder and harder to come by these days and aren't going to drop in price.

If you do decide to trade it I'd agree with the $600 value in trade mentioned above. Not that its currently worth that much to my knowledge just what I'd peg its trade value at.

i paid $299 one year ago for an exceptionally nice 1954 russian sks at Cherry's. when you consider the other sks' being sold at the same price today, i have to believe this has appreciated. of course, some of that recent appreciation and hi cost of other rifles is due to fear and not necessarily attributable to the rarity or desirerability.

I've seen two with ASKING prices of over $1200. in Gunbroker within the last year. I thought that it was unrealistic, but one of the sellers had linked to another auction in which one had SOLD for $1300. as his justification for asking so much.

I decided to keep mine a while longer...
