Hey I was checking out a two-tone sigma in 9mm at my local gun shop.
I really liked it even the price of $350,it's all good exept for one thing, the trigger is to hard to pull.
It felt like 9-12 pound pull, doe's anybody make a lighter trigger part for it, like the glock doe's for there's.
or can a gunsmith do something to it and how much?
or does it need to be broken in?

There are a few "fixes" that will smooth up and lighten the triggerpull on these guns. I've seen a thread or two detailing this over at www.smith-wessonforum.com. I have to admit that I really didn't pay any attention to the mechanics of this modification as I consider it ill-advised. Several S&W forum members have reported good results though. You can replace the striker spring with a lighter Wolff unit. That will probably shave a lb or two off the trigger. The other mod involves removing a spring in the trigger linkage. I don't know which. A while back someone here posted that a gunsmith was doing trigger jobs on Sigmas. Break-in will smooth things out and give the perception of a lighter pull.

It's been about 3 years since I got my Sigma (for $290 OTD). $350 is high for my area (they're still running new in local shops for $280 or so. A nice little advantage is that S&W is now running a promotion. Buy a new Sigma or M&P until 7/15/07 and they'll give you two free mags. That's nice.

Maybe you should try out an M&P and see if you like that better. It's more expensive, but the trigger is head and shoulders better AND the free mags offer is for the M&P pistol line as well.

Save your money and buy a gun you will enjoy. Take it from me I bought it because of the price and the S&W name. It is the only firearm I have regretted buying.

Academy has the Sigma in 9mm and 40 for $299

They also have the Taurus 24/7Pro for $388.00 which I would recommend all day everyday over the Sigma ;) I own both pistols by the way so Im not bashing by any means. The Sigma is a fine pistol for the price and it does what you would expect it to do which is go bang everytime for the most part, The Taurus is by far of better quality then the Sigma and is in the same class as the Glocks xd's and others like them

$350 is high for a sigma. If under $300 and you can live with the stock trigger, then it might be worth considering. If the stock trigger pull bothers you at all, buy something else! Some people like them, many others regretted the purchase and sold them.

I'd be rich if I had a dollar for every thread that started something like this: "I just bought a new sigma; how can I fix the trigger pull....................."

The answer to any question re: the Sigma is usually "No", "Not", or "Don't." I think that trend repeats itself here.

For the money, you can have any of a half-dozen guns that are better, either new or used. For as little as $100 more, you can get an S&W M&P, which is a truly good gun.

Can the Sigma be made acceptable? Yes. Is it worth the time and effort? Not really.

My two bits. I work at a LOcal academy in Houston. We sell the S&W Sigma for 299.00. There's good news and bad news. The good news is that teh Sigma is accurate. The bad news is that the trigger is as bad as a trigger can be. And there's not a lot you can do about it.
When you pull the trigger on a Sigma, your pulling against the striker(firing pin) and it's springs. YOu lighted up on the springs too much and the gun will mis-fire.
They are accurate, if you have the experence to handle the trigger. I've got and shot many pistols. And I can shoot the Sigma. Do I want to, NO, I've got other guns I use. I"m a CZ person, but I've got most of the BErsa's also. I like them a bunch. The thunder .45 compact is a little sweetheart.
Spend a little more money, don't get in a hurry, and pick something else, that you'll keep a while.

Not for me

I was at Cabela's around a week ago, and the had a Sigma there on sale. One thing I like about Cabela's is that they don't have locks on the triggers like the local Academy has.

The guy behind the counter took it out, racked the slide, pulled the trigger, racked the slide again and handed it to me. I asked for permission to pull the trigger and it was granted. I tried, it didn't work. I asked if there was a safety or something, and he said: "No, just pull the trigger." Finally, after much effort it went click. I rolled my eyes and handed it back to him.

Even if it was $19.99, I would have passed on it. I probably shouldn't say it, but compared to the S&W product line, I don't think it should have the S&W logo.

hey sorry about this and if im wrong I appologize, but Pak im in Houston also. Which Academy do ya work at. Im always buyin guns from Academy. Thanks

Full Metal,

$350 is high for a Sigma. I own a sigma 40VE. If you like the trigger on a da revolver then a sigma isn't that bad. They have had a lot of bad press and are far from the best gun on the market. But they are also fairly accurate and do go bang every time you want/need them to. The one thing about a sigma is you either love them or loath them. Maybe it would be a good idea to try one out before you buy one.

Thank's for all the info I think i'll check out the taurus 42/7 next time i'm at the gun store, and pass up on the sigma.
Thank's again

To bad you are not near Houston I would let you shoot my 1st Gen Sigma all you want to see if you like it, heck Ill let anyone shoot any of my pistols if its going to help them decide to buy one or not.

My Sigma 9ve is accurate as all get out---despite the heavy trigger ----for $300 its a bargain---its not my best pistol any means---but for $300---there's nothing better out there.

And actually its a good trainer for my other guns---if you can master the Sigma everything else is a snap.

People often will bad mouth the Sigma. But that is it. They can not tell you it FTF, jams, FTE, FTF. They can not tell you the sights are bad. They can not tell you that the mags swell up. They can not tell you the finger grooves stink. They can not tell you it points too high (for most people in my experience). They can not tell you that you have to relearn how to shoot.

They can tell you how bad it is, without stating why.

Oh, the trigger. Yes, if you are incapable of pulling the Sigma, or a revolver trigger, yes, that person has a problem. But it is not with the pistol.

Yes, if you are incapable of pulling the Sigma, or a revolver trigger, yes, that person has a problem.

Actually, you are correct: I do have a problem. I've had surgery on my right hand, including my trigger finger. The butcher that did it screwed up the nerves. Consequently, half of my trigger finger is numb, and the other half is extremely sensitive. I have a CZ-52 that I can not shoot without wearing a glove that covers the trigger finger - the trigger slap is just too painful.

I like what you said concerning evaluations of a firearms. I often hear: "It is just a POS; don't buy one." It would be nice to know why the person doesn't like a particular firearm. I can tell you that in spite of trying everything I can think of on the S&W 22A, it still jams on occasion. I've tried different kinds of ammo, and I'm still getting jams. On Friday it was 11 out of 100 with Federal, and then 4 out of 50 with Remington. I've noticed that I can just about predict when it is going to happen by watching the previous round eject. Is the gun a POS? No, I wouldn't say that, but I would state that if you are to buy one, you may expect some problems. I'm a little unhappy with S&W because it has been 3 weeks since I e-mailed them concerning the problem, and no reply. I'm just glad I didn't have a problem with my S&W 952 or I'd really be upset at the lack of response. (E-mailed Henry Repeating Arms once. Got an e-mail back the next day from the president of the company [or his AA]).

your right ive never heard ANYTHING bad about Sigma's except the Trigger. And My opinion for 300 bucks brand new with a lifetime warenty and now you get 4 mags total, 2 free until July 15 or something, what do you expect? Its not a Sig, or a Glock, or a HK. But its 300 bucks for a damn good gun with a suspicious trigger.

Anyways hopefully MP and I get together so I can shoot his Sigma. I cant keep affording all these expensive guns. I need a cheaper one.

I got your PM and sent a reply. Ill send you another one with my number in case you need to reach me and Im not on the computer. My Sigma is about 10 years old it is one of the first ones made. Its light blueish greyish in color haha with a stainless slide. It shoots great and never jams. I have been finding a few reloads that fail to go bang but Im pretty sure those are the reloads and not the pistol. Only happends once or twice out of a hundred cheap reloads.

Anyone wanting to meet up when Im going to be at the range this weekend is more then welcome to come shoot the Sigma or what ever else I bring :D

What's with Academy

CHecked the link to Academy at this time last night - :what: - Sigma down to $279, Ruger P95 for $295, KP95 for $315. Checked this afternoon and all three guns are gone - "Product no longer displayed." Did Academy discontinue these all of the sudden? I'm not talking their sale pages...this was their main "Centerfire Handgun" webpage which, coincidentally, went from a full 3 pages of pistols to 2 pages plus 2 guns on the 3rd page.

What's up??? ANy ideas???

That P95 was in serious danger of being snatched up...

They may have discontinued them, but more likely the price was intended to move their inventory, which it did. I think they may have underestimated the interest in these models at the prices they offered. People made a run on them and depleted their stock faster than expected. Probably can't get resupplied at the price level they had before.
