I'm more of a reloader than a shooter, but am getting itchy for a better platform to test my loads on. So.. am getting ready to pull the trigger (pun intended, sorry) on a new Savage 10xx.

I have very sensitive ears, even with muffs and am thinking about getting the Savage 10fp with threaded barrel. Perhaps later, I'll spring for a class-3 and add on a suppressor.

Questions... will the threads and/or flash/noise suppressors affect accuracy?

Do I need a class-3 as long as I don't add the suppressor?

Any advice on all aspects of this purchase is welcomed. 'frinstance, should I just get the 10pc or perhaps a Remmy 7-SPS and forget the hassles of class-3?

Thanks, Ronnie

1) The suppressor won't affect your consistency, but some suppressors may affect the point of impact a little, which is an easy fix.

2) You don't have to do any ATF nut fluffing to have a rifle with a threaded barrel, so you're fine. Only have to deal with that before buying the actual suppressor.

The FP-SR is a hell of a rifle. I'm buying one pretty soon here (can't wait, to be honest), and I'm looking forward to your review of it (hint hint).

Hope this helped!

Have a mod 10 fcp-k-le in .223 rem. Heavy fluted 26" barrel - oversize bolt -accustock - accutrigger. Shot 1/4" moa @ 100yds out of the box w/factory 55gr hornady v-max loads. Ordered another one of these in 7mm rem mag. From the special order dept about 5 weeks ago without the brake. Ought to be gettin it pretty soon. The .223 came w/muzzle brake on it, took it off and added the barrle cap instead.

I have a savage 10 fcp that I run a surefire suppressor on. Barrel is cut down to just about 20 inches. I use a QD set up and it is actually very consistent with POA v POI with and without the can on. I usually shoot better with the suppressor simply because it cuts recoil and blast by a lot. Groups stay pretty consistent, but could possibly be better with some charge weight tinkering.

Buy the suppressor if you can afford it.

don't you need subsonic ammo to utilize suppressor? I thought you do, and that subsonic ammo doesn't have any significant recoil compare to regular ammo.

You still have the ballistic crack w/ super-sonic cartridges, but the ‘blast’ is a lot less.

op:
Check the thread specs to make sure the suppressor you want will fit.

You do not have to use sub sonic ammo with a suppressor. The can acts as a muzzle break and does significantly reduce the report. As said , it can affect the POI so you just have to figure out where it hits with and without the can, and adjust accordingly. I highly recommend getting a suppressor if you can afford it.
