HI.
I'm currently carrying Hornady XTPs in my 9x18 Makarov as this seems to be about the most lethal round currently available in this caliber. We Makniks are anxiously awaiting the promised introduction of a new Cor Bon.

Do you know much about the XTP? How does it compare to the Speer Gold Dot?

After reading the account of the FBI Miami shootout on gunzone I was given the impression the XTP was 1.) Designed after this gunfight and 2.) was specifically designed to penetrate first, then expand. Can anyone confirm this?

The Barnual HP in 9x18 always chronos better muzzle velocity but the XTP penetrated 1.5" more (as I recall) before expanding in GoldenLoki's famous gel tests.

THANKS!!

Dave

Not exactly sure bout XTP's in a Mak, but in 45ACP they have been quite accurate. Expansion has been slow-meaning deeper penetration.

I think I'd buy a box of XTP's and Gold Dots of similar grain weights and try them out.

XTPs are my favorite bullets right now. Feed 100% in my autos, good penetration, excellent accuracy, and more affordable than Gold Dots. I'm not worried about how much total expansion I get, I count that as gravy to getting to the vitals.

I use them in 7.62x25 Tok, 40 S&W, 10mm, 45 ACP, and 454 Casull. I tend to like the heavier weights available.

They're in my 9x18 right now. Almost as accurate as Blazers in that particular weapon. Never shot anything but paper and steel plates with 'em, Damned sure wouldn't want to catch one!

Stay safe.

Hmm... I argue that, given the correct placement, a 22LR is just as lethal as your round.

In all seriousness, I think you've got a great combo there in the Makarov. Do they make the XTPs that can be loaded into 7.62Tok?

Ordered 200 rnds of the JHP from Mak.com for my CZ52. Its the only auto I own atm, and I live in an apartment, so FMJ is quite far from ideal for me. Thanks for the link.
