Combat Masterpiece;)!

That is an obscene price though. Quit your job and go look for one cheaper, you'll be money ahead.

Uhhhhh That's real nice and all that, but for $735.00 even with free shipping, I'll keep looking on the used racks. It ain't like used Model 15's are rare or anything.

Mine is about my favorite revolver though, I'll admit.

I will also admit that the used rack is ALWAYS my first option.

From buds website:
"*Please Note!! Many of our pictures are stock photo's provided to us by the manufacturer and do not necessarily represent the actual item being purchased. Please verify this picture accurately reflects the product described by the title and description on this page before you place your order."

The new Model 15 Classic on the S&W web site has a frame mounted firing pin, heavy barrel, target grips and an ejector rod shround. Basically this re-imagining of the Model 15 is a .38 Special Model 19. The suggested $919 retail seems right if Buds is selling them for $735.

I like the Model 15 for its balance with the tapered barrel and would be happy to buy a new one. I already have a Model 66, so I don't have a need for a .38 Special Model 19.

The Model 15 is one of the finest .38 Special revolvers around, IMHO. But for that price, you could possibly about buy two used Model 15s, a 2" and 4" if you like. I suppose if you've got the money and want to encourage S&W to start producing more revolvers like that one, more power to ya.

15-2 2", mfg 1965, paid $375 in 2007/8:

Around these parts the LGS's think that a used Smith with wood, and blue, is worth it's wieght in gold. Also, if S&W, can squeez the lock into a J frame, certainly they can do it with a K frame.

I bought a five-screw combat masterpiece with holster wear but in great mechanical condition for $250 less than two years ago.

I'd rather get two of those and some ammo for that price.

Frankly, the S&W "Classic"s look to me to be the same as when Ted Turner colorizes old movies.

It may look the same, but it ain't the same. :barf:

The Doc is out now.

Be sure to read the fine print:

What you see and what you get may be different. I didn't see anything specific about a "hammer mounted firing pin," or "no internal lock."

I'm not sure what the ultimate street price will be, but the model 15 Combat Masterpiece is not a rare gun. Average condition examples can be found in the $250 - $350 range, and $400 should fetch one in almost-like-new condition or better. These without question would match the illustration in the advertisement.

A glance at the S&W website reveals the same old crap

Look for a used 15 for half the money. I still can't believe how proud Smith is of their guns these days.

After some wheeling and dealing, I ended up with $350 in this oldie.

Half the cops in America, used to carry these. I would not give over $400, for Minty Nickle.
$300-$325, For a really nice blue.

No worries, Guillermo,

It's the first Smith wheelgun I've ever owned .I plan on trading it for a Colt as soon as a deal comes along...Either that or just leave it laying on top of my safe. That way I'd hope the theives would take it and run and not try to bust the box for the good ones...LOL.

CPE,

It is a fine handgun.

Enjoy it (IF you can)

Just amazed that you own a S M I T H & W E S S O N ! ! !

What is next?

A Taurus Judge?

Sequined thong?

A Hope & Change 2012 bumbersticker?

shaken to my core :what:

Guillermo,

You are correct. It certainly appears to be a fine gun. The main reason I traded for it was because it was nickel and shiny. I'm a sucker for bling. I'll probably shoot it a bit. I overpaid for a Tyler T to go on it. I might even carry it when I go slumming...LOL.

I've bought a few S&Ws the past couple years. I found a 15-1 and a 15-2 for reasonable prices, but they are used. I bought a 25 Classic, .45 Colt. It has the lock and all. Very nice gun. I'm not knocking new S&Ws.

I knew what I was getting with the 15s. They both shoot lights out, just cosmetically challenged as compared to new.

I found a NIB 19-3. Cost me $800+ otd. About in line with the cost of the new guns.

Lightly used S&Ws are around for sure, but it takes a little looking.

Exactly. Finding a NIB prelock, preMIM S&W may not be so easy. I go to gunshows. I go to gun shops. I live in near one of the biggest city in USA, and I live in a gun friendly state. I rarely see one of those NIB "real" S&W. When I do see one, it cost more than a brand new "classic". For some of us, getting a brand new "classic" is a compromise to looking forever for the right gun.
