Ive read all of the hooplah, seen the pics etc of the new 1911 from S&W...mind you I like S&W autos..but never liked the 945 as well as its a Hybrid 1911 to me...
Yesterday, I stumbled acrossed one of these in person. I gotta tell you...this is a very very nice gun. Optioned like the SA Loaded series..without nights...nice everything and a great trigger. The fullsize model they had was listed @ $669.00...
Pretty reasonable.....I wonder if they are using S&W's suggested retail price? Somehow, I doubt it........
Shoot well

It is a nice 1911 from what I saw of the pictures posted. I just don't like the front serrations.

I'd bet the initial run of the S&W 1911's are of very good/excellent quality just to attract buyers & claim market share. Let's see if they can keep that up. If demand stays high, I doubt the PC would be able to keep up.:scrutiny:

PCRCCW,

$669 would be a pretty good price. MSRP is $934.95. Most dealers will pay $618 + S&H.

How large was the rollmark on the slide? That was one of the things that turned me off to the idea of the S&W 1911. However, if the rollmark is small enough, and there are no MIM parts, then I would buy one at that price... :)

I can already tell you parts are MIM...the hammer had the little "dot" on it ...similar to most MIM parts that arent totally finished afterwards.
It was still a very very nice gun...Shoot well

At $669 I expect it will sell very well since it's backed by a well known name and is still cheaper than a Kimber, Les Baer etc. Time will tell if it can shoot with the big names in 1911's. They've received an example of it over at GunBlast.Com, hopefully Jeff will get a review up for us soon.

Just what the world needed, another $700 1911.

Why S&W has chosen to enter such a saturated market is beyond me.

20 yrs ago, entering the 1911 market might have made sense, but now with Colt, Springfield, and Kimber cranking out quality guns, and Wilson, Baer, and others catering to the high end, I just dont see how they think they will capture much market share.

I admit though I am biased against S&W, and wouldnt mind seeing them go belly up.
