Does anyone know anything about the Smith and Wesson 38 Special CTG with the Made in USA then Marcas Registradas on the side. The barrel and works are silver in color but I guess they are nickle-plated or chrome. I know little about these things, but it has a woodgrain handle and is a six shooter. The S&W stamp is in the handle and the numbers on the butt of the handle, engraved in the metal that goes between the woodgrain are; 5D01305.I would also like to know about a Makarov-Made in Russia by IMEZ; 380 Cal-IJ70-17A pistol and the numbers on it are B CK 8540 with a clip that holds 8 rounds and holster. Another I am looking at is a Marlin 22 Mag rifle, model 783 with scope. The rifle can hold quit a few rounds but I can't remember how many. They shoot well but I would like to know more about them and what they are worth for my insurance company before purchasing any one of them. Our family goes to the shooting range regularly and these seem to be pretty, OK, guns. If anyone knows anything about the value of these guns, please let me know. Wouldn't want to get stiffed.

Your Smith & Wesson is a model 10 (Military & Police) .38 Special. The serial number indicates it was made in or around 1979. The value would depend on the condition, but is probably around $200 to $300. Can't do better without examining it.

Sorry, can't help you with the other guns, but you'd likely do better if you posted your request in different threads within the rifle or pistol sub-forums.

Thanks on the S&W 38 Special Info...

These are guns from my dad's estate and several people in charge decided we needed to buy anything we wanted instead of dividing his collection evenly. I guess it's an ok idea but don't know who priced them out and if they even have a clue the value but I insure everything that cost much and didn't want to purchase them if they were not worth the price that they set.
The military/police model fits. My dad was in the military for more than 22 years and collected guns and guitars. He bought, sold, and traded both for as long as I can remember. He was part of the FOP where he lived and connected with DEA in some kind of way. Thanks for the help. I hope I can find info on the others but appreciate your help. He had some heavy duty Colts that I know were worth a lot more than these but I wasn't even going there. These were easy to handle and just sentimental. I just hated that they put a price on anything to begin with since all his debts were paid and he even planned his life in such a way that he covered every single last expense for his passing. He was a wise man. Anyway, thanks again for the info. Are these forums a safe place to chat about such things?

Sure. If you post serial numbers on various guns use "xx" for the last two numbers. That will provide enough information for research purposes. Your user name protects your real identity. Estimates of values can be difficult because the gun(s) can't be examined. but photographs can help.

We are a big, and for the most part, a happy family. you will find expertise in almost any firearms subject you can think of, but you need to post requests for information in the particular sub-forum that covers the firearm in question. If you get stuck, send a personal message to a moderator. You'll find them to be very helpful.

To add to what Old Fuff has said, requests for identification/information about a firearm benefits us all when each firearm has it's own thread. That way, the information feeds best into the forum search engine to make it selective for future users who may wonder about the same gun. It also helps prevent confusion, and it gets you a wider, more knowledgeable response.

Tagging onto someone else's thread to get information on another firearm is kind of like butting into a conversation. Folks will likely not bring it to your attention, but it makes the discourse more difficult. Thus, I'm splitting this thread for you.

Best,
XB
