I've Just bought a S&W 547, and it is the bee's knees. Right now its wearing a Hogue monogrip which I find too bulky and beefy for my small hands. The finger grooves don't fit my grip. Can anyone recommend a set of combat stocks that would work better for concealment and improving trigger reach? Will any L-frame stocks fit? How well do the original wood ones work?

Also, who makes a speedloader for the 547 other than HKS? The HKS's really don't work well, because the spring loaded ejector pin pushes the speedloader away from the cylinder. And the 9mm's are so short that when you release the cartridges not all of them make it from the speedloader into the cylinder.

Oh yeah...last question: The trigger is really thick and square from back to front. Are there thinner, round cross section triggers that I can replace this with (Kind of like the short triggers on Sigs)? Or can I maybe grind it down? Is replacing the trigger something I can do myself with a screwdriver?

stuff

yes, are smooth and narrow triggers..check out numrich web sight for parts...
for grips if hand is small the square N frame is a lot to get ahold of...I'd look for Pachmayr professional grips or some custom smooth wood grips...and if
all else fails see if your local gun smith can modify grip frame to round butt.

Yes, any L or K frame grips will fit. It is a K frame very similar to the Mod 19 but chambered in 9mm.

Is it a 3" or 4", the 3" round butt for me is a set of magnas with a Tyler T grip adapter.

!

I thought it was a 3" when I bought it, but it measures 4" from the cylinder face to the end of the barrel (and a THICK barrel it is, too! S&W doesn't $#%@ around.)

The butt is square. Does that change things a bit?

I think the grips for these guns from the factory were a sort of unique sort of banana shape on some guns. www.smith-wessonforum.com should be able to help you a lot on info on your gun.

As for speedloaders it's probably HKS or nothing. Only about 10000 547's were ever made so I'm surprised HKS even made them. I'm sure they are long out of production to so pick them up when you can. One idea I heard was getting like a 17rd Glock 17 mag and carrying that as your spare ammo and thumbing out the rounds one by one in to the cylinder. Not ideal but an option.

Treasure that gun! I had one just like it, down to the Hogue grips , that was stolen along with several other handguns about ten years ago. I could shoot that gun better double action better than any since. Even though I had the serial numbers, and gave them to the police, only one (Browning High Power) has been recovered so far - it was used in a crime.

Unfortunately, at this point when one of the others is found it will probably be an innocent person at a traffic stop who had no idea the gun was stolen; always know who you buy a gun from!

I love this gun!

No kidding. This gun is great. I got it for a steal too. :uhoh:

Seriously, if you'd like to pm me your serial number, I'll check the one on this gun . I got it from a respectable FFL, but who knows?

I do use the mag-thumb method, but speedloaders are still better. A Safariland, or Maxfire would be better, I would think.

I think I'll try some original wood magnas plus Tyler-T...either that or Pachymyers. The Hogues are good, but they put my pinky in an odd place.

And despite the giant, thick trigger, I can shoot it pretty well. It'll be the last priority, after, a holster, and a different set of stocks.

Thanks for the offer; I always assume that an FFL checks out his (or her) used guns with NCIC - I know I would!

I think I still have a speedloader for it in my junk, I'll look when I get home - you're welcome to it.
