S&W 59 during single action fire hammer will will fall to double action position

sometimes during single action fire the hammer will fall to the double action position. No discharge just pull trigger for double action and you are back in single action. about every 100 rounds or more this might happen I purchased the pistol in 1987. what part is failing?

Either the sear or the single action hook on the hammer (or both) is worn would be the most likely issue.

gunbob, I'm pretty confident that's what's wrong. Before you order any parts you want to wait for 1911Tuner, Mac'sPrecision, or one of the true experts to show up here and give a second opinion confirming my diagnosis.

Possibly just dirty. When was the last time the pistol was detail stripped and you had the hammer and sear out?
