Saw one at a pawn shop for that much. It's a little beat up on the outside, with scratch marks but no rust. Seems to function fine and trigger is nice.

Would you get it if you were in my shoes?

Yes you will be hard pressed to find a better gun for that money.

No love here. I carried one as a duty weapon for a number of years. I was issued it new and bought it when when swapped to Glocks. I guess it was a good deal....gun, box, papers, three then high cap mags for 180 bucks....It has since moved on and I don't miss it....It was a well made gun, but I dont care for the DA/SA trigger pull.

I'd make sure it still works. They've been out of production for quite some time and getting parts (including magazines) and service is getting harder and harder.

The 59 then 5906 were the leading edge of double stack DA/SA automatics. There are much better pistols out there now but the 5906 is still a solid weapon. I would jump on it if it still works correctly. They are a bear to repair.

Not me. I was issued an adjustable-sighted 6906 in 1991. My gun had extractor issues that led to constant jams, it was heavy, the sights were vague, and the trigger was miserable.

Maybe you will have better luck than I did, and in all honesty the price isn't all that bad...

I need another 3rd generation Smith like I need a hole in my head...and I absolutely would not have not left the store without it.

It's a good serviceable 9mm. Don't see how you could go wrong at that price. I'd buy it.

Speaking as a semi-pro bottom feeder, I would have been unable to resist offering 180 and walking out the door with it for 200.
That or kick myself for a week if I returned and it was gone. Get it.
