Took my new S&W 686 Plus, 3" to the range today and I have to say I am very impressed with the choice I made. Been awhile sense I shot a revolver but it pretty much hit point of aim if I did my part. I have read about barrels being canted and frames scratch but this revolver seems to be perfect to me. When we pay a premium for a firearm it should come out of the factory perfect. So I have to say thank you S&W.

I want one bad

You beat me to it but I am hoping to get the 3 inch next month if I can find one.

I almost bought one of the US Customs guns back in the 80's but passed and have regretted it ever since.

Enjoy my friend.

I've got the 6" and couldnt be happier with it. Mouse fart loads all the way to top end 357s it can handle them, and without causing extreme discomfort. The trigger is pretty good too.

If your B/C gap is narrower than .005", don't use Sellier and Bellot FMJ ammo. My new 686P had a problem with seizing up after four cylinders of shooting. I tried PMC Bronze tonight and it didn't have a hiccup. That S&B ammo is dirty.

I've had a 3 incher for about two years. It's a great shooter and overall trail gun. Fun to shoot, accurate, and nice looking in my opinion. Glad you're happy with it.

I've got the 4" Plus, but I too am considering the 3" plus. Something about a 3" barrel (shortest barrel while still having the full length ejector rod), 7 shots, medium frame, and compact round butt with wood boot grips that would just make an awesome carry piece in my mind  .

Kinda like this one, a 3" 686 belonging to Hickock45:

The sights are just fine. Typical S&W revolver sights with adj. rear, red ramp front.
I really enjoy Hickcock 45 too. The guy can really shoot.

Can't honestly say mine has any great function that other pistols cannot do better, but I love it for some reason.

A while back I went looking for a Model 66 snub and couldn't find any for less than $600. Gave up looking and the next week in my local shop shows up a 686+ -4 with a 3" barrel only fired a couple of times for around $500. I bought it, love it, and wouldn't trade it for any 66 now. Sometimes it turns out good when you don't find what you want. Really nice all around revolver.

Had mine for three years and it is a favorite shooter. The Ahrends tactical round butt finger groove grips are as comfortable as you can get. Cocobolo is no longer available but he offers many other very nice wood choices.
