I bought a new S&W 910S at a local shop today. Just finished inspecting, cleaning, and lubing it. Had no intention of buying another gun today, but was at the shop to pick up a gun with a friend and saw the 910. Seems like a pretty nice gun for $399.00. Don't like the plastic guide rod. Maby there is an after market steel one that will work? Already have a few 15 round model 59 magazines that will work in this gun. Anybody here had any good, or bad, experiences with the model 910S?

Hello Mr G
I don't have a 910 but I do have a 908s, which is just a cut down version of the 910.

I really like my 908. It is reasonably accurate and has proven to be very reliable. The only issue I had with mine was the extractor. The claw was very sharp and would dig into case rim when returning to battery. This started to cause failures to return to battery. On inspection I could see brass flakes all over the place inside the slide. Five minutes with a file was all that was needed to round off the bottom edge of the claw. It has never had any kind of problem since then.

This is also a good example why you should always spend some range time with a new firearm before it is used for any kind of defensive role.

I have been very happy with 908. So is my wife. It was purchased with her in mind. It has been a challenge for us to find a handgun that fits her hand and this one fits perfectly. She outright enjoys shooting it and has become very proficient. It is currently our "bedroom" gun. I feel much better knowing we have something both of us can use if (heaven forbid) it was needed.

The only complaint I can think of (extractor notwithstanding) is the factory mags are a little expensive. Usually around $35 to $40 each.

Oh, and no issues with the plastic guide rod.

Cheers
Rexrider
