Have had a SWMP40C for two years. Mag still falls out even after repeated trips to SW. Is there a real fix or do I count this pistol as trade fodder??

Does this happen with all your magazines? If so, you might want to try a buddy's magazines and see if it happens with his/hers. Maybe try your magazines in another gun.

call Cylinder and Slide and talk to them. I had a S&W 4006 that we used to use to teach clearing jams because it would jam at least twice per mag. Failure to feed, stove pipe, ect. Eventually I sent it to Cylinder and Slide for a reliability package and it was completely cured.

When does the magazine fall out? What has been done to "fix" the problem so far?

Mag falls out indiscriminately. First time, well into second mag. After S&W return; 8th round. Then 9th and 10th round. No detectable science beyond bad mfg. Supposedly, mag clasp and spring replaced each time. Problem prevails.
Have an 'OLD' SW 3904 9mm "sheriffs special". Never, never misses.

Wow, that's strange. It's been back to S&W and it's still a problem? Heck, I'd be upset too.

My M&P40c has been flawless so far. After around 500 around of various .40S&W loads, I purchased a 357sig Storm Lake barrel has used that about exclusively since. I'm sorry your M&P is giving you grief.

Does it happen with other shooters? Do the mags feel secure after inserting? Can they be removed by hand with a sharp tug once inserted? Are the mags inserted with the slide locked back or forward?

Personally, if mine were doing it after repeated trips, I'd be putting it up on the chopping block with disclosure to the future owner.

+1 There comes a time to stop throwing money at it and cut your loses. Full disclosure is the only honorable way to go.

Best guess is you are hitting the mag release when shooting.
Done that a few times with mine as well. Check your grip to make sure you are not pressing the release somehow.

It's easy to hit the mag release on the 40 and not realize it. The recoil is snappier than the 9mm, and can send your thumb up far enough to hit the release. Try a real high hold with both thumbs on the edge of the slide and see if it still happens.

I think you are inadvertently hitting the mag release when you are shooting. Have another shooter put some rounds trough it and see if they have the same problem.
