I was hoping to get some help from you guys about getting a desperately
needed trigger job done on my m&p .45.I've called and e-mailed Burwell and Bowie weeks ago and haven't gotten so much as a response from either. Is any one aware of another gunsmith to try? This gun is used for self defense so i would rather have a professional do the the job than mess with it myself. My only other option i've found is to send it to S &W and have their action job done, but at 140.00 plus shipping(i believe) it's pricey. Thanks in advance

From everything I've heard Burwell is absolutely the clear choice in this area, but you do have to wait on him as he's backlogged. You might try calling rather than emailing as some businesses - particularly small ones - might not check email often.

Apex Tactical Specialties makes some very good kits. I know you said you don't want to do it yourself, but it's really not that complicated to install. I put the whole competition action kit into my gun in about an hour and a half (spread across two days - had to get a hex wrench from the store to remove the rear sight and install the USB), and it made a world of difference. I have a C&R discount but it was around $80 for the kit from Brownells.

They do offer installation services on them as well but those start at $125 for just the hard sear and striker block and go to $150 for the whole Duty/Carry package.

Overall though, I think you're going to be either stuck paying a higher price or with a waiting list.

Don't know where you're located, but both Bowie & Burwell are the best known, best respected names in the bizz for your S&W M&P trigger job. To me, it's like eating at a nice restaurant. If there's a table waiting for me at the moment I walk in the door...I have to wonder how good the food really is. ;)

Sprint - I echo MG's advice: go the APEX route and do it yourself. I'm all thumbs and even I did the switch out with no problems. Randy Lee even has the instructions on video at his website so you can just follow along as you do it. Get the DCAEK; you won't regret it. By the way, i did the DCAEK as well as the RAM on my 9mm fullsize. I put the RAM only in my M&P Compact.

I have the 45 compact.

I did the "burwell" DIY job myself and it came out great

It was my first ever trigger job

It took about an hour

Its much easier than it appears

I'd highly recommend the Apex Tactical D/CAEK also. It is both cost effective and a real improvement to the trigger...usually less than just the shipping to have someone work on your gun. The step-by-step videos are really very helpful.

Given your concerns, I'd avoid the less expensive route of the Burwell DIY trigger job.

If you are going to send it out for work, the last place I'd send it would be to S&W.

Another vote for Apex. I installed the hardened sear and stricker block kit myself, retained the factory springs, it made a major improvement in my M&P .40 Compact.

I have done both the Burwell DIY trigger job and the APEX parts kit. Both are easy to do. If I bought another M&P I would the APEX route, great trigger, and a bit easier to do.
