Now the big question.....

Are YOU going to shoot it? I sure hope so since the poor thing doesn't appear to have lived up to its mission in life yet! ! ! ! :D
I'm certain there are good reasons to leave a gun unfired, I just haven't found one yet :)

That is a sweet one.

I have always been partial to the square butt in the Model 10's myself, don't know why just my preference but that is one sweet pristine model 10 you got yourself there. Enjoy it. I got the fever a couple of years ago and I have a 10-5 tapered barrel, a 10-8 heavy barrel and a vintage 10-5 snub from 1963 that WAS unfired when I got it. I love all three. The 10-8 heavy barrel was a duty weapon for a NYPD officer before they made the switch to Glocks.

Model 10-8 here. Got it as a surplus revolver years back. Works excellent. My load of choice, 158 LSWC with 4.6gr Unique. Seems to hit right on. Funnest gun to take out and shoot stuff at close range. Everyone should have a Model 10.
Crappy cell phone pic, but you get the idea.

I saw a HB 10 at GS awhile back, didn't get it. Next GS I made tracks back to the guy, he'd sold it, but..... he had a beautiful Smith # 15, 4" I got instead, like this one better. You've got a beauty Bike !

I got a call this morning from the pawnshop, they want the gun back!

Apparently no one realized it was still under the mandatory 30 day hold (WA law) when they released it to me.

So, it'll be sitting in their safe for another month

Sorry to hear that, but you'll get it back. You get to look forward to a "new" gun all over. :D

I took my old M&P to the range today with a box of 158 gr RNL reloads. I just don't think there is a more delightful gun to shoot.

When I was a much younger man, I didn't care much for the Model 10. I thought it looked "quaint and old fashioned." These days, I like them because they are "quaint and old fashioned."

Just like me. :D

Dang! 30 days?? What???
I think the Pawn shop is having second thoughts about it????

I'm becoming convinced this one is a conspiracy. After returning the gun and getting my claim check (to be released 4/10), there in front of me was a Ruger 10/22 rifle in just the configuration I've been wanting. It's a brand new release, not even on their website yet. I'm sure you all know the rest of the story...:D

Uhmmmm...Mr. Bikemutt -- you need to come back to the pawnshop with the 10/22...We seem to have had another bookkeeping error...

:D

.

Model 13-2 4" was my first S&W Revolver... smooth as clock work, such a beautiful finish. $400 a few years ago.

I prefer the Model 10 for daily carry (left bottom), with a set of butchered pachmayr grips, she's being refinished, wirebrush / bead blast, bluing. I don't mind the weight, size is just right for me and she takes 158gr +p like a champion !

The nicer snub Model 10 (top left pictured) I'd like to have some engraving done on. I paid $380 for her, she's about 98% condition.

All 3 S&W (purchased separate), total cost $1100, those are numbers the wife likes

Bike,

They have the same law here in Colo., the Colt Trooper I picked up about 6 months ago had just past the 30 day the night before... in my stable now. Good luck with it when you get'er home.

A well used LEO trade in 10-6 was my first S&W. I picked it up in 1996 for $160. I have never touched the action, smooooooth. A great shooter. Added a 10-5 round butt snubby this past summer.

Nice catch bikemutt, this thread inspired me to take my M10-14 to the range today. I took along some Magtech 158gr LR amo that I've had for quite some time now, and some reloads consisting of a 158gr SWC over 4.6gr of Unique, and a Lyman #358665 over 4.0gr of W231. I just smiled to myself as the Magtech and Lyman #358665 stuff was consistently chewing out the center of a B24 target at 15 yards. According to Lyman the #358665 is supposed toweigh in at 158gr but mine actually weigh around 165gr. As per their load data I should be getting around 840fps with 4.0gr of W231.

I have more powerful handguns but if push came to shove and I could only keep one it would be that M10. It is very accurate as most here can attest to, with the fixed sights there ain't much that can go wrong with it either. The S&W M10 IMHO is the perfect vehicle for the .38 SPL cartridge. With companies like Buffalo Bore out there the grand ol' .38 SPL is more versatile now than ever, and with ammo such as Rem 158gr +P SWCHP it is still a good defensive cartridge. I would really like to try out Buffalo Bores' 158gr SWC Outdoorsman load.

I'd have deleted and ignored the voicemail and held on to the revolver.
Poor planning on someone else's part does not equal an emergency on my part.
