I just got a S&W model 13-2 4" this week and am looking forward to going to the range this weekend (first revolver). I just want to make sure i didn't get ripped off or anything. It is a clean gun with usage wear. I would say good, not excellent, condition. Has pachmayr grip on it and has no pitting in bore.

If anyone knows what these normally go for, price wise, I would be very grateful to know that. Either way I do believe I am going to keep this gun. I am happy to be able to have something nicer than my 9.

Thank you.

chechire - Model 13 .357 Magnum Military and Police Heavy Barrel, manufactured from 1974 -1999. The 13-2 was made 1977-1982. Book Value range is $235.00 for a "good" example through $425.00 for ANIB. 20% premium for nickel finish, 50% for one marked N.Y.S.P., orignal grips would have been Magna walnut w/ S&W medallions. This was a popular FBI and Police issue gun.

Thank you very much JT. I paid 289 for mine. I do believe I got a good deal and can't wait to get to the range. (Also it is blued (black look))

You did well. Price will vary across the country. I picked up a model 13-1 that is pinned and recessed at it cost me between $350-$375. (I did some trading). Anyway, I just saw another one recently, as well as a model 19, and both were going for about $425. There's a lot more 19's out there than there are 13's; or at least it appears to be. 13's have a huge following and it's a lot harder to find them. Many law enforcement who used them prefer fixed sites. They don't hang on holsters or clothing. Anyway, looks like you did good. Later... Mike....

A S&W Model 13-2 is a pinned and recessed magnum revolver with fixed sights. P&R revolvers are becoming more and more scarce as collectors and speculators are snapping them up.

According to Supica's Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd Edition, it should run about $285 in Very Good condition, $375 in Excellent condition.

At $289, I would have bought the gun too, had I wanted it. It's a fair to good price. Supica's SCS&W is considered the Bible on Smith & Wesson. Even so, you must remember that Blue Books, including the SCS&W are not absolutes on prices, but rather records of what the particular gun sold for, on average, at least two years ago across the United States. Regional price variations come into play, as well as sudden collector interest that may make the Blue Book prices lower than what is asked in the marketplace.

The Model 13-2 is just such a revolver. It is a primo combat gun, and it will last a very long time with reasonable care. You can only expect to see the value rise in the future if you take care of it.

Just found my camera. theres a photo because even though I have not shot it yet I am loving the gun a lot.
