S&W Model 19-3 ; YOM?

This round is easy on any 357 magnum revolver. And its accurate.

I also agree. I've found it to be quite accurate. I generally reload, but every now and then I'll get the Blazer for a good price and it has always worked well for me.

"Highpower" reported in a previous post that the serial number dates to 1976. My Thanks to "Highpower" for the input. 1967 or 1976? Maybe there might be the possibility that someone has possibly transposed the last two numbers of the YOM?

Transposing would be my guess. S&W went to a number prefix from the K prefix in 1970 ie... changed to xKxxxxx from Kxxxxx. There is no way a 9Kxxxxx could be from 1967.
The 19-3 engineering change was initiated in 1967. So some of the -3 did have the diamond inserts. If your 1976 model came with those stocks it would be very unusual but not entirely impossible. Old time S&W collectors say "never say never" when it comes to S&W.;)

If they are Magnas (small stocks) they MIGHT have a serial number in pencil on the inner surface of the right (IIRC) stock. I know they have discontinued the practice but don't recall the exact year.

The larger Target stocks usually did not have a serial number on them.

The diamond insert stocks are collectable in their own right and are sought after. Be careful with them. ;)

EDIT: Ditto the "Save yer brass!" It's very likely you will decide to take up reloading at some point. Brass is gold, especially if it's .357 brass.

And this thread is worthless without pics!

Hi,

THR posted: "And this thread is worthless without pics!'

re: Pics

Hi,

I just checked, and the first photo link doesn't work, for whatever reason. The rest of the links do work, and any one of them will take you to the photo album, where you can see the rest of the photos listed, and more.

I will start saving my 'brass'. I have prior reloading experience with shotgun shells, from my earlier days shooting as a team member in trap and skeet 'leagues'.

Once again, Thank You to all who have responded to my questions.

Those are post-'68 "Football Targets" referring to the football shaped "extractor relief" on the left stock. I believe those are correct for your year. The "diamond insert" refers to a diamond shaped area of uncheckered wood around the screw.

Like these.

That image hosting site doesn't seem really user friendly. Have a look at Photobucket. It's free & really simple to use.

The stocks on your 19-3 would certainly be correct for a '76 produced gun. They look exactly the same as the stocks on my 1976 produced M66 no dash.

Those are stunning!

I've been told that S&W turned out their stocks without regard for grain or appearance. Looks like you hit the jackpot with that one. ;)
