It's getting a little dated, but this is the best list I've seen online - http://www.handloads.com/misc/Smith.Model.Changes.asp - scroll to the bottom for the model dash info. As far as serialization goes you'll still need to buy The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson by Supica & Nahas; which is a great book anyway.
