S&W New No-Lock Guns!!!

Not to start a p***ing contest or debate the lock v no lock issue anymore than it already has been, but the 642 locked model that I used to own, locked on me while firing. It only happened to me once and I never could replicate it, but talk about losing confidence in a SD weapon... I'll never purchase another one. At least not for SD and even then it's gotta be a heckuva deal.

Out of curiosity, how do you know it was the lock in your 642 and not some other part binding up? I ask because I had a S&W with the lock bind up while shooting .357 magnums once, but it was the little flag that did it, and the 642 doesn't appear to have the flag.

I bought a smith and wesson 432PD last week. It's a 6 shot J frame .32 magnum. I had to get it because.....it's a .32 magnum. I mean, how adorable is that? I joked with the gun shop owner that I needed to buy it because my collection was missing a revolver that nobody has ammo for. Anyway, I bought it used and it didn't come with the lock key. Is the lock easily disabled? Are the keys all universal and available for purchase somewhere?

You need a Taurus in .218 Bee, or something in .32-20. Maybe a British Eley or bulldog special, or a few pinfire revolvers? Maybe a LeMat? What about a top-break .44 Russian? The list goes on....

I think S&W tested the waters with their release of the M642 no-lock followed closely by the M442 no-lock. From what I read those revolvers flew off the shelves as did the M40 and M42 which are equipped with the grip safety. Now they are making a M442 Pro with no-lock which is a brand new release so there is hope.

IF S&W is cautiously testing the market to see if the J-frames without an ILS sell better and faster than those with an ILS, then it might make sense to hope that people buying them will help send a message. ;)

From what I've heard, the original 'parts clearance' production effort involving the left-over 642-1 frames sold out to distributors in less than a month ...

model 60-14, brand new. 10 shots of 38's, no problem. 4th shot of 125 gr 357, locked up. Trigger would not allow the hammer to fall, hammer could not get cocked (and stay back). It is back with smith to find out what happened.

So it is not always the ultra lights, nor really hot ammo.

Huh it doesn't seem to be much more at all than the standard 442 either. I definitely need to look at one of these if/when they arrived at the local gun stores.
I don't know what will happen to gun forums though if they keep making revolvers without locks on them (you can get M&P semi's without it). What will people have to complain about?

Just kidding, I'm sure we'll find something.
