Has anyone got their hands on one of these freight trains? just curious for some comments on it. thinking about taking the plunge myself.....

I'm hearing they are showing up in distributor's lists, so it shouldn't be long now.

I have one "on order" with a LGS, but he's not sure when he'll see it.

Friend of mine tipped me off to these. He works in the local funstore and got to put in some range time when the rep came by with one.

His thoughts were it's just barely larger, and recoil was significantly less than the 40 shield. He was VERY positive. He knew I wasn't in the market for one so I don't think he was trying to make a sale but he was very happy with how it handled and shot.

I don't have it yet...but soon, I hope.

If it is like my 9mm...I will love it.

And, based on the videos that I have seen...it seems to be a sweetheart.

A Shield in .45acp? Why would you even want one? It's pretty much all downsides versus the same pistol in 9mm.
The relatively bigger, slower .45 round is often known to cycle less reliably in a very short barrel. The .45 loses an unacceptably high percentage of it's ballistic efficency through a very short barrel. Then there's the increased kick, and the loss of a round in an already small-capacity magazine. And I'm pretty sure the whole loaded package is going to be heavier in 45.
Modern 9mm HP's are highly effective and lethal, there's no need to switch from these to something else, especially in a small, light, polymer-framed pistol, but the loss of a round ALONE is enough of a reason to stick with the 9mm version.
Other than the, "oooh, but it's a 45!" factor, I ain't seeing how this is superior (or even equal) to the 9mm Shield loaded with GD's or HST's (same goes for the XDS,and similar pistols).

some people will never understand. I dont want a 9mm... k?
Sure, I get that, and I don't begrudge anyone buying, or avoiding, whatever the hell they want, just cuz, I've done it myself a few times. But do you have any rational, substantive reason for not wanting a 9mm, or is it......just cuz?
Like it or not, in a small, lightweight CC carry piece, a pistol loaded with a quality 9mm round is about as practical, economical, and effective as it gets.

We all have different reasons for wanting one. The reason i want one, is simply because i want one....no more, no less. I already have/had multiple single stack 9mm, i also reload 45 caliber and think it would be fun. There are some folks that like to feel that 'bump' when squeezing the trigger....recoil gluttons...Lol..So, really just asking for some feedback here. if was torn between 9mm or 45acp i would have asked that question instead, but thanks for the education.

Given that the most popular, common version of this pistol is in 9mm, and the 45 version is brand new, your statement in the OP, "just curious for some comments on it", pretty much was an invitation to contrast the two, logically speaking. ;)

Full disclosure: I don't have one and I generally prefer the 9mm over the 45.... I think it's mainly because of grip size. I didn't like my Colt 1911 Govt because of the grip size. But I digress.

Maybe I'm not reading the BBTI data correctly  but this is what I see.

The upper/better half of the 45 rounds tested are in the range of just under 400 ftlbs to just under 500 ftlbs.

The upper/better half of the 9mm rounds tested are in the range of 300 ftlbs to about 340 ftlbs.

Heres the links directly to the muzzle energy graphs.

I'd say buy it if you want it for what ever reasons you have.

Not really, "comments on it" is specific to the title of the post, not a request to debate 9mm vs. 45.

We can do this all day long if you'd like...it's just common courtesy to take the 'high road' and not turn someone's post requesting info into a debate of caliber....

They had one a few weeks back at my LGS. I really love the look and feel of it. The one thing that just didn't do it for me was the trigger. The only way I know to describe it is that it is squishy. It felt like there was some play in the trigger assembly.

I was also in the market for a CC gun for my daughter. She ended up liking the LC9s better (no caliber argument intended).

Yeah, I've read a lot of complaints on line about the M&P triggers, and how they're not crisp, as you say, squishy. I wouldn't let it stop me from buying one as there are aftermarket replacements, or will be at some point for that particular model. Either way, sounds like they're at least comfortable in hand. I'm still looking for one in my area, but haven't run across any yet so...we'll see. Thanks for the feedback.

Never mind the "9mm. versus .45 and why would you want a Shield in that caliber" crowd. I also like small compact .45s and if the Shield is something that interests you in that respect, then by all means get one, and then of course, let us know how it does!

Hmm, I'll have to look for one the fondle, er, examine at the shops. I liked shooting my Dad's 9mm Shield, and both his M&P .45's, the regular and the Compact.

LGS has them in stock. Held one today . It's the same size as the 9/40 shield, but has a different grip texture . Feels good . Dealer told me he sold one to a buddy so I'll have to get together with him to shoot it. I like it but I'm waiting to shoot one before I buy one.

We bought our son the XDS 3.3 45 and he loves it. I do too. The M&P shield 45 is very interesting so before I decide on the XDS I'll give it a hard look. Any idea of the price point for the shield?

i'd say it's going to be in the $450 range....i can't remember what msrp is but, the lgs says that's around what they will sell for in my area when they can get them.

When I read this I thought "how could they be the same size??"

They aren't.

But they are so darn close in size that the difference is meaningless in the practical sense.

Now I'm wondering 'How did they make them the same size?"

Since when do us gun nuts need a '' logical"reason to buy a gun?
