I have been really jonesing for a Professional model from Springfield Armory.
They are making them in 9mm now as well as 45, railed or clean.
I probably won’t carry it, but plan to shoot the snot out of it and keep it next to the bed.

I’m likely to go with the rail for a light.

What do you think? Worth it?
9mm or 45?

Just do it and post pictures please!

If you don't like it you can always sell it to me at a huge loss!!

For THAT kind of money, I think I’d be looking at Wilsons, not SA’s.

9 mm would be more conducive to shooting the snot out of it, but something would always just feel a bit wrong, like getting a Mustang with the turbo four instead of the big V8. You’d always STILL want the 45.

Get the 45 and if you’re not already, reload for it to keep it affordable.

I like the 45 better, but my poor aged old DAD who looooooves a 1911 in 45 can't shoot it any longer for medical reasons, so I got a couple 9mm 1911s so he can still enjoy shooting them. I am now finding the 9mm 1911 a great transitional round for people I take shooting. Your mileage may vary.

If I were laying out the $$$ for the Professional model personally, I'd get the 45. If I were just looking for a Springfield 1911, I'd start with the Garrison and Ronin models of which I have several in 9mm, 45acp and 10mm.

Springfield is a parts assembler, no components of the gun are made by them.
The barrel they put in the Professional is the same one they use in the Mil-Spec.
That said, I own 5 of their 1911’s and most recently bought a 9mm Garrison, which I’m pleased with. But I can’t envision ever spending more than $1500 for a SA.

That's not true of the professional model. Read their description of the gun on their site.

(or are you saying this custom fitting is done by machine?)

I have read on several other gun forums that the Springfield Custom Shop is no more and the employees are gone. Yet, they are still making the Pro. Not sure who is doing the actual work.

Some of you guys are clearly clueless about the Pro, so why bother to comment?

I own multiple Ed Browns, Wilsons, Nighthawks, Baers, Cabots, etc, etc. The Pro is fitted and as high a quality of a 1911 as ANY of them.

In fact, the SA TGO1, which is their best 191-, is as good a 1911 as I’ve ever seen by anyone.

Springfield Custom is still going strong

You’re thinking of the S&W Performance Center

Hilarious

Yeah it’s time you learned something about SA Custom. The other SA’s are nothing of the sort and may as we’ll be by two different companies.

As far as parts are concerned, some of the best custom builders in the world make zero parts. As long as they’re made well and out of the right materials, that’s what matters.

No, a few weeks ago I read at least 2 different posts on 1911 Addicts claiming that Springfield closed the custom shop totally

Interesting, wonder if they all went to work for Les. :)

I saw that. Some say that the Pro was all they were making

Others claim they tried to order a gun from them with no luck..
Those two things are not contradictory...and neither implies that the Custom Shop is closed.

The Pro was always built up in the Custom Shop. If that is still being made the Custom Shop obviously still exists.

Not accepting other work doesn't mean the shop is closed either. They might be trying to catch up on a backlog of work or they finally saw that accepting custom orders wasn't workable for what the majority of their customers were willing to pay

Go read the thread. Word is the employees have been pulled. Even Alchemy Arms is commenting on that thread, stating that the custom shop is no more.

Anyway, doesn't matter to me. I have posted about it before (years ago) - but I previously had a Springfield Custom Shop 1911. I was not satisfied with it, nor was I satisfied with their attempt to solve the problems the gun had. I would never buy one of their 1911s again, without inspecting it first beforehand (mine was a custom order). I've seen some others make the same statement before as well.

If I remember right, months ago someone posted interior pics of their pro at 1911 Addicts. Horrible machining. Springfield apparently said it was "fine."

Seems Rob wanted to make a Pro v2.0 but backed out as SA is producing the Pro still.

All I know is the Professional roll marks changed to a smaller different font recently.

I would pick up a TGO or Nowlin barreled Pro but that’s about it.
