Led to an interesting talk with local LEO

Last week my home town endured an unfortunate event that allowed me a brief conversation with some of the local LEO’s. My county has a critter on the loose that enjoys sexually assaulting young women and now 10 year old girls. Last week the critter molested one 10 year old and raped another causing a massive manhunt right in my backyard. In this latest event he lured the two girls into some woods on the far end of my subdivision where he committed the horrible acts and was then chased into the woods by an adult after hearing screams. I have to give credit to the LEO’s the pulled out all the stops. Planes, dogs, and officers on ATV’s searched the woods for hours. Sadly he wasn’t found.

About six hours (now I feel bad I waited that long) into the search I decided to walk down to the corner where a couple of LEO’s had the street blocked off and offered them something to drink. I figured they’d been at it for hours and I could spare a couple of cokes and bottles of water for their efforts. After politely refusing the drinks one of them commented “this kind of crap might not happen if we had a CCW here in Illinoisâ€. I was happily surprised to hear this from a local LEO. I agreed and commented that I wasn’t holding my breath that we’ll get it anytime soon. The other LEO commented “we might get a CCW if Chicago slid into Lake Michiganâ€. I had to chuckle at this and after a few more minutes of conversation left them alone and headed back to the house.

The whole event was pretty spooky. Having planes fly over your house is not cool. You never think that sort of thing will happen that close to home. Knowing now that the critter either drove or walked in front of my house with the garage and back door open has me a little freaked. That problem has since been corrected. One good thing, my mom didn’t say a word when I loaded the shotgun and no comment was made when I kept a pistol within arms reach the rest of the night.

Been through that kind of thing here too, unfortunately and it is sad and eye-opening. It made me hug my daughter and give her advice about how to avoid being a victim, fingers crossed she never does.

The world is scary and sick sometimes.
