Was flabbergasted by seeing a video of someone by passing an electonic lock on a cheap safe, basically they pulled out the wires through a small hole and used a battery to power it open- is this a concern with gun safes with the electronic locks? Specifically the amsec?
Seems the big advantage of keypads is speed and ease of combo change, with a dial lock it is reliabulity , but combo changes are a locksmith proposition. The worry, of course, especially from a big box store, is that an employee could note the combo, note the address, and stop by later for a treat.

You would probably drop over dead if you knew just how easy it is to defeat most "safes" sold these days, regardless of type.

Many can be pried open fairly easily, others can be opened with a sawzall.

Unless you are willing to spend several thousand dollars, consider it a speed bump to a potential thief. There are things you can do to make it more of a nusiance. Plenty of threads discuss how. Try the search tool.

The specific problem you asked about is probably related to how thick the door is, and what grade of steel is used, and whether or not hard plates are installed around the lock solenoid.

There's a reason very few people in the know use electronic locks. ;)

This is shockingly true - most "safes" are drywall and sheet steel, nothing more.

Which is why I ponied up and bought a Graffunder. :)

There are a lot of inexpensive security products that aren't very secure.

As far as electronic safes locks, anything that is UL listed is going to be fairly secure.

Are there "tricks". Yes. But these tricks usually require equipment and knowledge that most thugs trying to break into your safe won't have.
