I recently picked up a Savage 10ML-II for this hunting season. If you're not familiar with it, its a muzzleloader designed to shoot regular smokeless powder. I need to get it sighted in and get comfortable with it before muzzleloading season starts, which brings me to my dilema. I expect to fire 20-25 shots with it, perhaps more to get it sighted in and develop the right load with it. My only powder measure is set up in my reloading press and I don't want to drag the whole thing to the range. What I'd like to do is pre-measure powder in different loads from 38-42 gr, label them, and take them with me. They make special tubes for carrying blackpowder loads to the field for reloading, however these are like $8 for 3-4 of them. 20-25 plus would obviously not be worth it. I was thinking I could get some 1/4 or 1/2 inch diameter PVC pipe with endcaps and make my own. Is that safe, or could static electricity from the pvc turn my powder holders into mini pipe-bombs?

Sorry, I just figured the reloading section was more appropriate for this than blackpowder given the type of powder I'm using (Vihtavuori N110).

Thanks,

that sounds like a decent idea... althou i am sure you could find a more static free solution to hold small amounts of powder..... (sorry cant think of anything thats not lab supplies, as that is where i am)

if you do go that route, w/ the pvc, i would wipe them out with a dryer sheet should help w/ the static issue.....

YMMV

Empty pill bottles & lids from the pharmacy.

Label them with blue painters masking tape & a Sharpie so you can peel it off later.

Lightly spray them with Static-Guard and gofer it.

PS: 35mm film containers work great for that too if you can still find any somewhere.

Small test tubes with rubber vacuum caps to seal them. I use 44grn of IMR-4227 under a polymer tipped 250 gr sabot in mine.

Priced cigarettes lately?

You could buy gold plated cocaine snifters for your powder cheaper then cigarettes.

There is a volume measurer with a funnel built on the top to pour in the muzzle that is used for black powder. Weigh out the lowest charge you want to use on your scale and fill the measurer and take note of the reading on the measurer then weigh out the max you want. Then start at the lowest and work your way up. Take note of which mark worked the best in you rifle. Then when you get back home, you can throw the charge on your scale to see what it is.

Keeps your powder in the original container and is easy to handle all you will need is a small funnel to fill the measurer with from the powder can.

Just my 2 cents.
