I traded my SAIGA 223 AK, w/ 3 10 round mags and 2 30 round Pro Mags for a GLOCK 21, Gen.3, w/3 13 round mags and a 26 round mag. I'm a big GLOCK fan and very happy with the trade. What do you think? Good trade?

At the end of the day, its a good deal if you are happy with it.

If you're appraising the value of the two pieces, much depends on condition, and what config the Saiga was in, etc..., but all other things being equal, my personal opinion is that the Saiga bundle was probably worth a bit more than the Glock bundle.

On the other hand, since you like (value) Glocks more, and presumably not so much on the Saiga, that's what matters.

As stated above, if you're happier with the Glock than the Saiga, it was a good trade for you.

Strictly on value though, the Saigas are banned from importation and who knows if we will ever see them again. The market is flooded with Glocks. Saigas are only going to go up in value and Glocks will stay about where they are....I would have kept the Saiga.

I liked my Saiga 223, it was accurate and reliable. But, finding mags for it was somewhat difficult and expensive when you did find them. I had planned to make modifications like replacing the stock with a tactical one, adding a bullet guide, having a flash hider added, etc, but all that was going to be very costly so I said, the heck with it. I traded it even up for a Glock 21.

I know it is too late, but, you install a bullet guide and use cheap/plentiful Galil mags.

I will agree with others as I have seen unconverted ones go for $800 locally, 1k for converted. Seems silly to me but people will pay.

The guy working behind the ammo counter at WallyWorld recently offered me $800 for my unconverted Saiga 7.62. From a monetary perspective, I'd say the other guy got the better part of the deal.

At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter as long as you're happy with the deal.

Not a glock fan you lost on that deal. ;)

Its okay though, if your happy thats all that matters.

PSS- I just dont like the grip angle. Otherwise, reliable firearms.

I wouldn't have done it... Saigas are banned from import, where Glocks aren't.
I love Glocks and normally I would think it's a fair deal, but like he said above, they're still pumping out Glocks, no more Saigas.

Rugerman07 - That's why you put the bullet guide in so it will take regular AK mags. ;)

As long as you felt it was a good deal, it doesnt matter what anyone thinks.

I have one of these Saiga 223's I bought in 2009 for $380. Haven't fired a round through it. If you are happy with trade that is what counts. But I agree with the other posters if the import ban continues the Saiga would only go up in value and the glock can be had anytime.

Whats the point of this thread? In terms of money, that Saiga is worth more than that Glock. But if you needed the Glock, and didn't need the Saiga then you're OK - it saved you time and tax and other hassles that transcend the difference in their listed monetary value

It's all in what your happy with. So you have to look at it a couple different ways. Dollar for dollar you probably got the short end, but if you really wanted that glock then you would have had to sell the saiga to fund it. Likely to get the most for if you would have either sold it yourself with a little work or lost 10% in commission if you consigned it. Then you would have had to find the glock and bought it. Looking at it that way your on the short end but not by much, maybe 50 bucks or so.
From the other side you had a long gun which you were looking at putting money into accessories for. It takes up more room in the safe, eats more ammo money, and eats more accessory money. You traded that for a handgun that's ready to go...in that sense you did pretty good.

Does that work on the .223 versions as well? I have One in 7.62 with the guide and it works great, but I don't think .223 works in 74 or 47 mags.

Two main reasons I made the trade were I've been wanting a GLOCK 21 for sometime now. Plus I plan on buying an AR 15 and the SAIGA wouldn't see much use after that, if at all.

And that's really all that matters. [emoji3]

As has been noted, dollars wise, the other guy got the better deal.

That said, the Saiga ain't anything to write home about IMO. Just another AK, and in this case, one in a chambering that it shouldn't be. Shoot your Glock, buy/build your AR while they're still dirt cheap, and enjoy!

Saiga's aren't known to explode the way glocks do. :)

I had the same conversation with one of my brothers when he sold an SUV that had given him nothing but trouble. He listed it for $1000 and it was sold within an hour or so. He called me and asked me if I thought he asked too little for it. I asked him if he would rather have the $1000 or the SUV back? He said "The money." I told him that's all that mattered. Plus, it was a little too late to change his mind.
