Saiga 308

Okay I am going to get this thread going one more time. THanks to everyone on here I know that the Saiga's are accurate. THough I have one question. I can get the one with the 22" barrel for about $435 with all fee's from stanleysproshop or I could pay $520 and get the one with the 16" barrel but the guy said they are on backorder and I might have to wait up to 4 month's. So I am wondering is the 16" barrel worth the money and the wait or is the 22" good. I am new to this and am unsure. This is just going to be shot at the range because I live in Pa and you are not allowed to hunt with a semi.

So the question is 22" or 16". Does the 22" make the gun look really ugly or is it not bad. In the future I could get it sawed down to 20" or 18" if I ever felt the need to. Also if anyone has any pics of the 22" I would like to see them If you don't mind.
I just don't want to waste my money!!!!

FBMG is one of the major distributers in the U.S. We haven't gotten a shipment in over a year. I say if you found one in the caliber you want then grab it. They are getting a little sparce and therefore you are paying too much but I would still grab it.

I have a 16 inch .308 (and a .223 and 20) and I have watched the comments for some time now regarding the accuracy difference betwen the 16 inch and 21 inch. The most common observation is that there is no significant different in accuracy between the two. I've even heard some claim that they have had better accuracy with the 16 inch, but who knows what that's about.

BTW, I picked up my Saiga .308 about a year and a half ago for $259 and thought that I could have done a little better.

With optics and the knowhow, this gun could shoot a Coyote at 600yrds no problem.

I shoot bowling pins at 575yrds and they're TINY.... and I use estimated hold-over (I'm not good enough to learn scope-clicks yet) :)

All in all, great guns. I hear the 16" is just as accurate as the 21" If it's gonna be lugged around and shot from standing, I'd recommend the 16". If it's going to be bi-podded and shot from prone or off shooting-sticks, the 21" won't be bad.

Sorry, Photos got dumped.

There is a couple things needing clairifcation. The two things you will find different between the two barrel lengths are velocity and stablization. From everything I've read and been taught a .308 bullet reaches max stablization at 24". This will be more noticible, I think, at targets 500yds and beyond. So yes bowling pins at 575yds but not at 800yds. As reguard to velocity you will see a 400fps aprox difference between the two barrel lengths.
Those are the biggest differences. I think accuracy should be very close between the two.

I am not worried about the the weight of the gun or velocity of the bullet. I really want to know how ugly the 22" barrel makes the gun look. It's an AK variant and you never see any AK's with 22" barrel's do ya. I think the 16" looks cool but 22" thats 1/2 a foot longer. I have never seen a 22" not even in a picture and I don't want to buy something I don't like. So any pictures of Saiga's with 22" barrels would be helpful.

Thanks for all the help.
