All my life I've lived in Arizona, except for about six months in PRK :)barf:) and six months in New England.

A friend of mine recently got the Director of San Antonio of our branch within our company. Discussing it he's indicated he'd like to bring me over in six months to a year to be a manager on site due to experience, working knowledge etc.

My Question to THR:

I've never been to Texas, I live in the Great state of Arizona where Open Carry is the word of the day and public BLM land is readily available for hunting, Class III is commonplace and no restrictions like AWB or the like. We have the Castle Doctrine along with some of the fairest CCW restrictions i.e. no requirement to take gun off when driving, no need to empty the gun etc.

I've looked up pictures of San Antonio and the housing market is awosome! I can get a massive house for what a beater would cost me here.

What are the gun laws like? Whats the locale like? Politics? Shooting? Hunting? Help?

I lived there for 10 years and it was a really nice place to live. One problem is the housing market tends to fluctuate a lot due to the high military population. In 2003 I visited the neighborhood I lived in until 92 and it had turned into a wasteland sad to say. Wasn't actively shooting or collecting guns back then but Texas in general has always been firearm friendly...

Good self defense laws.

No open carry, though concealed carry in the car is mostly legal due to changes to that "traveling" law.

The CHL law is fine to me, but it will likely be more expensive.

The laws are not necessarily the best in all cases, but a lot of people and LEO's are gun owners.

In my experience, the LEO's are generally professional. I am sure there are exceptions. Most of my experience is Houston suburbs and more rural areas. I have never gotten a ticket while carrying with my CHL. Only a few stops though.

The Texas State Rifle Association is a pretty good organization. They have been getting their way in the Texas Legislature the last few sessions. I have no idea where "open carry" is on their radar. The Texas Legislature only meets for 6 months every other year so changes are slow.
