Picked up a used Savage 110 in .223 at the gun show yesterday. I've never owned a Savage, and I don't know how to remove the bolt. Any Savage owners out there who can help me?
There is a lever on the left side of the receiver. Push it down while you pull the bolt to the rear. I can't remember if you leave the weapon on safe or not. Good luck, they are great guns.
To remove the bolt on MY Savage...
Check empty.
Open bolt partway.
Hold trigger back while depressing the lever on the RIGHT side of the action. You can let go of the trigger when the lever is all the way down.
Pull bolt out of the action.
To reinsert bolt, hold trigger back while depressing the lever, and just slide the bolt back in. The "baffle" lugs must be aligned with the locking lugs and oriented right, the one with the anti-bind ridge on it should be on the right side.
IIRC, the 110 works the same as the Model 11G. Pull the bolt to the rear, mash down on the lever on the right side while pulling the trigger completely rearward. While you're holding those down, pull the bolt on out. To replace the bolt, reverse the process.
