Hey, today I picked up a Savage 110c Series J in 30-06 Its in excellent condition. It has a scope of unknown manufacture. Gun seems functionally sound. I cant find much about online. Any input on these rifles? Seemed really cheap.

I'd guess that rifle was manufactured in the 80s. It has a smooth barrel "nut" as opposed to the barrel nut that has notches to rebarrel. That mag release was an old design as well.

I'm a fan of Savages and own a few of the "newer" rifles. I hope it's fully functional because Savage will not warrant that rifle as they will only go back to a certain SN. Not to mention Savage only has a one year warranty from the date of purchase on new rifles.

I'm sure your rifle will shoot well. You can swap out the barrel/caliber on your rifle if you want to...even though you have the smooth barrel nut.

Hopefully you got a good deal on the rifle.

Looks like middle to late 1970's Savage to me, could be early 1970's. They are solid rifles and the magazines are still available for that model. The only thing to remember is the scope mount bases (and you're going to want some) won't be the same as the current 110 as the rear receiver bridge is flattened on older 110's (whist rounded on later ones).

It's a solid, good-quality rifle.

... the scope mount bases (and you're going to want some) ....

+1. Get that scope down for proper cheek weld.

If you ever decide to change the stock, do your research prior to ordering. Kevin Rayhilll makes stocks for them. Some companies like McMillan do not.

Actually I really like the stock, and its in good condition. Yea, the scope and mounts will both be changed. I have an older leupold 3x9 around which will be perfect for this rifle. The magazine release is really nice, and works perfectly. It seems like a very nice rifle.
I paid $125 for the rifle with scope and sling.

I had 4 of those 70s years Savage 110s till my house was broken into gone.I had guns that cost lots more taken but two of the ones I miss the most are the .243 and .270 110s.Those older Savages have a pretty good adjustable trigger
