Savage 12 vs Sav 12FV

18" vs 26" bbl in 223

I do little rifle shooting and have a quandry. A friend and I bought Savage rifles in .223 at the same time - his a model 12 with plastic stock and an 18" or 20" bbl. I bought a md 12FV which was the same except for a 26" bbl.

He now wants to trade and is offering me $200 plus his rifle with +/- 300 rnds fired for my unfired rifle. The cash difference he is offering is about 40-45% of what I paid new.

So, with a .223 will that 6" difference matter much if my shooting is less than 300 yards? If not, I will trade. help me out long gun gurus.

I'd jump on that in a heartbeat. Then take his 200, and buy a new 26" barrel in some cool caliber, like 20 Practical. And sell his barrel for $100.
