I've got a heavy barreled Saveage .25-06 and have decided I want a sporter instead. I'm looking at 3 options:

1: Buy a new rifle. I could sell my old rifle to pay for about half or a little more.

2. Or I could rebuild the old rifle. Brownells has Shilen barrels and walnut stocks and I could get the action trued and timed for about the cost of the new rifle. So after acounting for saleing the old rifle rebuilding would be a couple hundred more than a new rifle.

3. Have the heavy barrel turned to sporter add a action job and stock and it would be about even with purchasing a new rifle after saleing the old one.

Rifle is going to be used for hunting.

Which option makes the most sense and provides the nicest rifle?

Since its for hunting, you know need a super accurate gun, although its better its not neccasary unless varmint hunting, so I would buy a new rifle.

do you want a dif cal, or just get the same cal, but a diff contour bbl, and you can switch them out yourself, to have a sporter rifle, and then a long range varmint rig.

Sticking with 25-06.

The only problem with switching is the new stock would be chaneled for either a sporter or varmint weight barrel, probably not ideal for the otherbarrel weight:confused:

I would rebarrel but with an ER Shaw for about half the cost of the others and throw it in a Savage Low profile wood stock
