Hello all, first post here. I have a dilemma. I'm trying to mount a Vortex Viper 3-9x40 on a Savage 16 Weather Warrior and having a bit of difficulty. The rifle came to me with Burris dual dovetail bases already installed so I picked up some Signature rings, however the Viper with 5.4" of mounting length is just a tad too short. My local shop is confident that standard Leupold bases and rings would work with the rear base reversed (the windage end hangs over the bolt opening).

Would the Talleys with rings mounted inward towards the bolt opening work for me? Anyone have a setup on a Savage similar to this and can provide me the outside measurement ring to ring? Any help/advice is appreciated. Thanks.

savages have notoriously wide spacing - you gotta find a way to work around that. fortunately, many options are available.

my savages are set for the windage screws on leupold std bases to hang over the bolt opening.

front of front ring to back of back ring on an accu-trigger short action savage is 4.244".

good luck!

also, you will need a fairly long tube scope. the leupold 2.5-8 will not work unless you use extensions. i don't have experience w/ the scope you will be running, but i toss that out there for an fyi...

I had a question like that. I called Talley. They told me what rings to use, so I ordered them, and they fit perfectly.

I'd just call them, not us.:)

Talley lightweights are great things, IMO.
