(Darth Vadar sound track playing the background, please)

Yesterday as my wife and I were finishing up at the range, we got to chatting with the fellow who runs the place. My wife mentioned that she had really enjoyed shooting my 9x18, Makarov, and that she was thinking of maybe getting something more suitable for self defense than the 22 Bersa she carries.

Well, the propriter, not being slow at all, starts to show her a couple of guns. I casually mention that I have never even held a GLOCK, ("The official pistol of the Dark Side". I know it's true. I read it on the internet.)

<Turn the Darth Vadar music up just bit at this point.>

Behind the counter, the guys eyes light up again, and he hands me a Glock 17, and says, "Close your eyes and just point it." I did, and when I opened my eyes, the sights were perfectly lined up.

I am now being courted by the "Dark Side". As I was leaving I heard a voice wispering "Luke...Luke...Come to the Dark Side. You'll like it here."

I may have to just "rent" one. Yea.. that's what I'll do. I can handle this. I can quit anytime I want to.

As you saw, the difference in grip angle is slight, and it points naturally for many. The difference in grip angles and pointing is slight b/t the Glock and the 1911--especially if the 1911 is fitted with an arched MSH.

Use the force Luke!

:D
Resist the temptation of the dark side!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks asside, Glocks to me are the yuppie guns at our range. The people who show up with them are newbies who buy them because they are "cool". They think hitting the paper at 25 yards from a rest is great shooting... These are the same people who buy 4X4 SUVs to drive to Walmart! :cuss:

My biggest problem with them is that to me they don't point or feel as good as other guns do... For those of you on the Dark Side and they fit and feel fine great. I will stay in the light....

See, this is how it begins.

One day, perhaps a few weeks, perhaps a few years, you'll be reading a post in which someone complains that their 1911/CZ/Beretta is having trouble, and before you can stop yourself, you'll write, "Dude! Just get a Glock!"

Then you'll mention that you can freeze it in liquid nitrogen, fill it with Bolivian fire ants, run it over with a bulldozer and shout mean things at it, but it'll still function.

Then you'll know you've turned to the Dark Side.

The natural pointability is not a fluke, Luke. Come over...
May The Schwartz Be With You.

Glock The gun of Gangbangers, and yuppies. Don't fall from the true path a real American pistol. The 1911A1. Captain America would never carry a Glock and people that live out in space don't know anything anyway. Get you a## back on earth and get a Colt 1911A1. A Real American pistol for Real Americans

Ummmm....Captain America isn't real, so who cares what he would carry? :scrutiny:

So, if you want a gun that works EVERY FRIGGIN TIME YOU PULL THE TRIGGER...come on over to the dark side.

By the way, for those of you who believe Glocks are for Yuppies and Newbies, I have owned probably every type of auto pistol made in the last 75 years (including Kimbers, XD, HK, etc., etc., etc.) and I carry and compete with a Glock and I am neither a Yuppie :barf: or a newbie

Do not allow your pride to force you to keep carrying an inferior weapon system, just tell us on the dark side we were right and give in :D

Besides as you can see in the pic chicks dig the dark side

I'm luke-warm to Glocks. I have two Glocks, but have no interest in more. They don't feel great in my hands, are rear-end ugly (IMO), and I really don't like the trigger safety (after extended shooting, it feels like it digs into my finger). I'd rather have the trigger be heavier (8 lbs), without the safety.

Having said this, my .45 ACP Glock 21 has incredible accuracy for its class. And my Glock 26 has so low recoil that I can put the hottest 9mm +P rounds in it, and still have excellent muzzle control and super quick follow up shots.

Overall though, I prefer metal framed guns a lot more.....Sigs, CZs, etc.

However....one day I might go back to polymer....as in an HK USP .45 ACP.

Some of the most... pleasurable... times in my life have been spent with with 'less than beautiful' women. We're talkin' utility and reliability here folks. THAT's beautiful. Always there when ya need 'em, always go bang when ya pull the trigger....heh heh....What more can ya ask for? Concerning Glocks, of course.

What About Your Wife?

Cajunbass:

Your thread started with "my wife this, and my wife that"....but suddenly became all about you and a glock!

What does your wife like out of those that you both looked at?

Dark side, shmark side! Why not get what you like? You could even get more than one. I have a 2nd gen. G-17, a Colt commander, an S&W 649, and a 1076, etc. I enjoy the hades out of all of 'em. Don't worry about Dark Helmet, he only LOOKS tough.

Glocks are fine guns. My wife wanted one soe we rented a Glock 17. She couldn't get it to feed reliabley because she limped wrists it. It shot great for me. I do like the XD-9 better, but ended up getting a Steyr M-9 to fill my polymer void and I like that the best. Oh yeah, I originally got it for my wife, but she hasn't had the "opportunity" to shoot it yet, but we'll fix that soon. I hope it works for her.

1. Find a dealer who's got, say, a Nighthawk in stock.
2. Put it side by side with a Glock.
3. Gently hand-cycle the slide of the Nighthawk, feel that slide glide smoothly along the rails ... Gaze at the superb fit and finish. Note the exquisite craftsmanship.
4. The take another look at the Glock.
5. If you then still desire a Glock, there's no help for you and may God have mercy on your soul ...

1. Find a dealer who's got, say, a Nighthawk in stock.

Take one look at the price and immediately buy the Glock for 25% of the cost of the Nighthawk  Sorry Old Dog, I just couldn't resist....

I've got Glocks, Kahrs and 1911s, but I carry the Glock- I don't care about looks, just functionality. I bought my first Glock in '88 and have never regretted it.

The problem isn't how to make it go bang, it's how to make it not go bang

Gaston Glock picked that grip angle because it was ergonomically suited to more people. Maybe not if you have years shooting the more upright 1911. But for newbies it is likely better. But guess what, you don't stay a newbie. And even later, the Glock just points right. Or has for me the last 18 years.

Item number one for a handgun, it should fit your hand well.

Item number two it should naturally point where you think it will.

All other items follow in importance.

If the Glock fits your hand, and points naturally you have the main two items down. Dark, light whatever....I just call them the right side.

One more item, I think the Steyr is the same even more so. Take a look a them. You won't have the poster child pistol from the dark side. Maybe you can sleep easier that way while still enjoying the benefits of that type design.
